2019 Proton Exora - Variants explained
It was earlier today, sharply at 9:30 AM when Proton Malaysia launched the 2019 Exora. This makes for the MPVs third revamp since its launch in 2009. Brushing you a bit on the topic, Proton has been teasing us with the new Exora for quite some time now, and the MPV was even seen commuting on the Malaysian roads all camouflaged earlier this year. The biggest reveal was, however, made yesterday when Proton posted a 26-seconds long video wherein Exora's new features/revisions were shown in bits and pieces.
Before we start, here are a few highlights about the 2019 Exora -
- The Exora is now available in a new Rosewood Maroon exterior color along with the existing four options - Snow White, Cocoa Grey, Ruby Red, and Indiana Grey
- Most of the revisions are made on the inside, and the exterior mostly remains the same
- The new Exora gets equipment cues from the all-new Persona, 2019 Iriz, and even the X70
- The best part is that even with all the updates, the revised Exora costs less than the previous-gen model
- Bookings for the new Exora are open for prospective buyers at RM 9.99
- The variants on offer remain the same as before, i.e., base Executive and range-topping Premium model
Speaking of Exora variants, let’s now discuss how the two models on offer are different -
Price point
As mentioned above, the new Exora is now cheaper than before. The base, Executive trim costs RM 59,000 that is RM 2,547 less. The range-topping, Premium model witness a price cut of RM 2,208, bringing the final cost to RM 66,800.
Engine configuration
Both the models of the Exora are powered by a 1,561cc 4-cylinder DOHC, VVT Turbo engine that develops a maximum power of 140 PS at 5,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 205 Nm at 2000 to 4000 rpm. Transmission duty is assigned to a CVT unit.
Dimensions
There’s no difference between the two models on the dimension front. The 2019 Exora is 4,610 mm long, 1,809 mm wide, and 1,691 mm tall. The wheelbase and ground clearance measure 2,730 mm and 155 mm, respectively.
Exterior design & features
Let’s first talk about the features that are shared by the variants on the outside. It includes halogen headlamps and shark fin antenna. The ORVMs come with turn indicators and feature manual fold function in the Executive model and automatic on Premium option.
The Premium trim, on the other hand, showcases add-on elements like daytime running lights, rear fog lamp, side skirting, rear spoiler, black rear garnish, and black rooftop.
Cabin amenities
The Executive trim gets a urethane steering wheel with tilt adjust, power window, 12V power socket, 2nd & 3rd-row air-con vents, fabric seats, front passenger sun visor with vanity mirror, ten bottle holders, and 2nd-row armrest. As for the Premium model, most of the features remain the same and only added to the list is audio and hands-free steering switches and 1st-row armrest.
However, it’s the connectivity front, where most of the difference lies. The Executive trim misses out on 7-inch touch screen display and in its place gets a standard audio system with Bluetooth connectivity and USB port. The Premium option proves its worth with the inclusion of Proton X70 borrowed touch screen with voice command, Online Music Streaming, Online Navigation, Online Weather Forecast, Smartphone Connectivity, Bluetooth Connectivity, and 4G & Wi-Fi.
Safety kit
Despite the difference in the price point, the two models carry the same safety kit, except for the Electronic Stability Control and reverse camera that is limited to the Premium option. The standard safety kit includes Front SRS Airbags, Anti-Lock Braking System, Electronic Brake Distribution, front seatbelts with pre-tensioners & load limiters, rear parking sensors, immobiliser & anti-theft alarm.
