The most noticeable changes are on the outside, where black trim and red accents give the X50 a darker appearance.
The front upper grille garnish, trim around the side openings in the front and rear bumpers, and lower bumper garnish receive a black finish. There are also black 18-inch alloy wheels, Sport Edition front, side and rear skirts, and an SE emblem.
Inside, red stitching appears on the steering wheel, armrest, door trims and seats. The front seats also get Sport Edition embroidery, while TPE floor mats and metal Sport Edition door scuff plates round out the package.
Proton says the enhancements underwent more than 13,700 hours of testing, covering durability, corrosion resistance, UV resistance and suitability for Malaysia’s tropical climate.
Same 181 PS engine and Flagship equipment
Under the bonnet, the X50 SE retains the Flagship’s 1.5-litre i-GT turbocharged engine, producing 181 PS and 290 Nm, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The Sport Edition package does not add any extra power. Buyers are paying for the styling changes, with the existing Flagship equipment carried over.
That includes the 14.6-inch infotainment display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the “Hi PROTON” voice command system and Proton Link 2.0.
The safety and parking equipment also remains, including 15 advanced driver assistance features, Auto Park Assist, a 360-degree HD camera with a 180-degree transparent view function, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

Through the Proton Link 2.0 smartphone app, owners can access selected vehicle functions remotely and check information such as the car’s location, fuel level, estimated remaining range, vehicle alerts and trip history.
The system also supports selected Huawei smartwatches running HarmonyOS. Compatible watches allow access to functions including engine start and stop, air-conditioning control, door locking and unlocking, power windows, boot access, and horn and light activation.
This connectivity is part of the Flagship’s equipment, rather than an addition exclusive to the SE package.
Both the X50 Flagship and Sport Edition come with a five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty, along with free labour for six services. The latter covers labour rather than the full servicing bill.
Owners also receive a five-year in-car data package with 2GB per month, subject to terms and conditions.
The Proton X50 Sport Edition is available through authorised Proton dealerships nationwide. For buyers already considering the Flagship, the decision comes down to whether the black trim, bodykit and cabin details are worth another RM1,999.
