11th-generation Honda Civic first official look revealed

KUALA LUMPUR: After months of anticipation, rumours, and leaks, the eleventh-generation Honda Civic has finally come out of the wraps. But for now, we just have a single official image of the highly-awaited sedan as Honda is still keeping its rear exterior design and interior under covers. 

Based on the Civic Prototype shown last year in November (pictured below), the new Civic marks a clear departure from the ongoing model by virtue of its grille treatment. Honda says, “the 2022 Civic Sedan is the most fun to drive and technologically advanced sedan in the model's nearly 50-year history.”

As compared to the concept, the production-spec version has minor changes. Instead of having glossy black accents seen on the concept, the production-ready version gets matte black trimming on the upper as well as lower grille. It also has fog lights and body-colored mirror caps in place of dark side ones. Seen in the image is the top-spec Civic variant, having a sunroof and front parking sensors.

Also new are the two-tone wheels that replaced the prototype’s all-black units. The side black trimming has also been restyled in body-colour. Moreover, the production-spec Civic gets chrome window surround instead of glossy black finishing seen on the prototype.

For the interior, we still have prototype images only, which showcase a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment unit and climate controls set up similar to the Accord. There is also a digital instrument cluster and a new steering wheel with slim thinner three and nine o' spokes for driver assistance. 

Inspired by the timeless design, Honda designers and engineers worked on the new Civic with a focus on Honda's human-centered design philosophy, This resulted in a “sporty new look and an all-new simple and sporty interior that advances essential Civic values of uncluttered design, simple ergonomics, and exceptional visibility.”

The full gallery along with technical specifications of the all-new Civic sedan will be released on April 28, 2021. Following that, it will go on sale in the international market this summer. After several months, we will get to see the all-new Civic Hatchback, whose production will take place at Honda's Indiana auto plant in the United States for the first time in its history.
