2025 Proton X50 launched - Can be had from as low as RM85,800

KUALA LUMPUR: It’s here. Proton has officially launched the 2025 Proton X50, and while the carmaker is marketing it as “all-new,” it’s more accurately a very comprehensive generational update.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What’s new in the 2025 Proton X50?

It gets a new 1.5L 4-cylinder turbo engine, a larger 14.6-inch screen with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a redesigned cabin, and upgraded ADAS with lane centering and 360-camera.
  • What’s in the early bird deal?

First 10,000 buyers get RM4,000 rebate, 5-year warranty, free labour service, data, special insurance, and financing perks—bringing prices down to RM85,800–RM109,300.
  • Still, make no mistake—this isn’t just a facelift with new headlights. It’s a major overhaul in all the places that count.

The new X50 now comes with a 1.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine across the board, replacing the old 3-cylinder mills. This new powerplant puts out 181 PS and 290 Nm, mated to a 7-speed wet DCT, and helps shave 0.3 seconds off the 0–100 km/h sprint (now 7.6s). You also get improved fuel efficiency—up by 4.7% on paper.

Prices for the new X50 range start at RM89,800 for the Executive, RM101,800 for the Premium, and RM113,300 for the range-topping Flagship.

Proton is also offering an early bird package for the first batch of 10,000 customers, which includes:

    • RM4,000  cash rebate
    • 5-years warranty/unlimited mileage + 6 times free labour service
    • 5-years in car data package (2GB) per month
    • Trade-in overtrade, up to RM2,000
    • 5-year capped finance at 2.35% PA/ 7-year capped finance at 2.38% PA
    • Upgraded Proton Insurance programme - Special perils, up to RM500 child seat coverage, personal accident coverage for passengers up to RM15,000 per person

With the cash rebate, this effectively brings down the price of the Proton X50 to:

    Proton X50 Executive - RM85,800

    Proton X50 Premium - RM97,800

    Proton X50 Flagship - RM109,300

On the tech front, all variants now get a new 14.6-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a redesigned cabin featuring a column-mounted gear stalk, ambient lighting, and twin phone holders (one with wireless charging on the Flagship). The 8.88-inch digital instrument cluster is standard, and the Flagship gets a black roof and sportier red-black interior.

In terms of safety, six airbags are now standard, along with the Rear Side Radar System. The Premium and Flagship models step things up with Level 2 ADAS, including AEB, adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go, and lane centering assist. There’s also an improved 360-camera system with a 180-degree underbody view and enhanced Auto Park Assist.

Visually, the 2025 X50 gets a more aggressive new face with “triple eyebrow” DRLs, a redesigned grille with Proton’s red Ethereal Bow, and a full-width LED light bar at the rear. The flagship gets a larger rear wing lifted from the Geely Binyue Beyond Edition, while all variants ride on new wheels—17s for the Executive, 18s for the rest.

The variant lineup is now cleaner too, dropping the old Standard model and starting from Executive. Even at base spec, the new X50 feels much more complete.

If the first X50 helped push Proton into the SUV mainstream, this 2025 version feels like the company has finally filled in all the gaps. It’s not a full reset—but it’s exactly the kind of evolution owners and new buyers have been waiting for.
