And, now it seems that the automaker is finally ready and convinced to bring pure electric cars to Malaysia, aimed at supporting the nation’s goal of becoming carbon-neutral by 2050.

Upcoming Toyota EVs in Malaysia
Toyota bZ4X EV
Part of Toyota’s ‘Beyond Zero’ initiative, the bZ4X was first previewed in Malaysia back in 2023, with plans to launch soon thereafter. However, the EV’s local debut remained uncertain till now. In the meantime, the bZ4X has undergone a facelift, which was recently showcased at the 2026 Bangkok International Motor Show. We can refer to the Thai-spec model to get an idea of what to expect locally.
Toyota offers this electric crossover in two variants in Thailand - FWD and AWD, priced at THB 1,529,000 (RM 185,468) and THB 1,649,000 (RM 200,024). The former is powered by a front-mounted motor generating 224 PS and 269 Nm of torque, while the latter features a dual-motor setup tuned to deliver a combined output of 343 PS. As for the battery pack, there is a 73.1-kWh lithium-ion battery, which offers a WLTP-claimed range of 525 km for FWD and 481 for AWD.
Toyota Hilux EV
Global unveiled in November last year, the 2026 Toyota Hilux EV is also expected to hit Malaysian shores soon. The electric pickup truck was recently launched in Thailand with the name ‘Hilux Travo-e.’ Priced at THB 1.491 million (RM 180k), the EV comes powered by a dual-motor setup generating 196 PS of combined output. It comes mated to a 59.2-kWh battery pack, offering a cruising range of 240 km (WLTP) on a single charge.
The Hilux EV comes in double-cab body style only, with the battery pack positioned in a diamond-shaped subframe and is protected by a shock-absorbing structure.
Toyota Urban Cruiser EV
The Urban Cruiser EV, revealed at the 2025 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show in Indonesia, is the third Toyota EV earmarked for Malaysia. This compact EV shares its underpinnings with the Suzuki e-Vitara and comes in both FWD and AWD drivetrain setups. Equipped with a 61 kWh battery, the range-topping version delivers a total output of 184 PS and 300 Nm and a driving range of 350 km.
