A90 Toyota GR Supra to launch in September

KUALA LUMPUR: Waiting for the A90 Toyota GR Supra? Well, good news for you, as the revived sports car is set to arrive here in September 2019. This information comes from none other than UMW Toyota Motor general manager, Richi Lim. He made this announcement during the launch event of Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) Festival, season three. However, details like specifications and pricing remain unknown.

We can get a rough estimate of the GR Supra’s price via the tag on new G29 BMW Z4, as it’s Toyota’s sports car’s close cousin and retails for RM 479,000 (on-the-road without insurance).

The Toyota GR Supra would be offered in two mill options depending on the market. One is a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged unit that makes a maximum power of 197 PS at 4,500 to 6,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 320 Nm at 1,450 to 4,200 rpm. The same mill is also offered with a higher state of tune, wherein it churns out 258 PS at 5,000 to 6,000 rpm and 400 Nm of torque at 1,550 to 4,400 rpm. The more powerful powertrain hits the 100 kmph mark in 5.2 seconds, while the less powerful unit takes 6.5 seconds.

The second power plant option is a 3.0-litre 6-cylinder turbo engine that develops 340 PS at 5,000 to 6,500 rpm along with 500 Nm at 1,600 to 4,500 rpm. Here the car can complete the 0 to 100 kmph run in 4.3 seconds. All the engines are paired with a standard 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox that transmits power to the rear wheels.
