All-new 2026 BYD Atto 3 more details revealed - Malaysia launch tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR: BYD Sime Motors has been teasing the arrival of the all-new Atto 3 on its official social media channels for a while now, mentioning something “faster, further, and smarter” on its way to Malaysia. 

Well, in recent teasers, the automaker has dropped some real numbers, confirming that the new BYD Atto 3 is up for a major upgrade. The teasers reveal that the following important specifications - 

FASTER	0-100 kmph in 5.5 seconds
FURTHER	Driving range up to 600 km (NEDC) or 510 (WLTP)
SMARTER	Enhanced ADAS features

These details suggest that the automaker will be introducing the Evo version of the Atto 3 in Malaysia, which was introduced in Europe earlier this year. Let’s dive deeper to know what the new BYD Atto 3 has in store for us - 

Rear-wheel drivetrain with major power increase 

The upcoming Atto 3 is expected to come with an RWD setup instead of the FWD configuration available on the existing model. The benefits of the rear-wheel drive setup could include better weight distribution, improved handling, balanced, and more engaging driving dynamics.

In terms of power, the RWD model generates a maximum power of 313 PS and a peak torque of 380 Nm, which is significantly higher than the FWD version, producing 204 PS and 310 Nm. With increased power, the former runs from zero to 100 kmph in 5.5 seconds, 1.8 seconds quicker than the latter.  

Bigger battery pack and longer range 

The existing model comes powered by a 60.48 kWh Blade battery pack, letting the EV cruise up to 420 km (WLTP) on a single charge. The new BYD Atto 3, however, is expected to offer a significantly higher driving range of up to 600 (NEDC) or 510 (WLTP). To achieve this improvement, the EV is likely to be equipped with a larger 74.88 kWh battery pack.

Faster charging 

Another major upgrade that the EV may receive is the 800-volt electrical architecture, which will significantly improve charging performance. We can expect up to 220 kW DC fast charging capability, which can juice up 10 to 80% battery in 25 minutes. 

Cosmetic exterior tweaks

With reference to the global model, the new Atto 3 facelift will retain the same familiar silhouette as the current model, with dimensions remaining largely unchanged. However, for a fresher appearance, it is expected to get the following cosmetic tweaks -

• Sharper front-end design
• New bumpers
• Updated rear styling with refreshed lighting elements
• New alloy wheel designs 

More premium interior

The cabin is also expected to receive several improvements, offering a more comfortable riding experience to occupants. Expected upgrades include - 

• New dashboard layout with redesigned steering wheel
• Bigger digital instrument cluster
• Redesigned column-mounted gear selector
• Additional storage spaces
• Higher quality materials

Improved safety package 

Touted as ‘smarter’ than before, the all-new BYD Atto 3 facelift will come with enhanced ADAS features. The expected advanced driver-assistance systems are adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear-cross traffic alert, and lane keeping assist.
