All-new Renault Megane R.S. details revealed

KUALA LUMPUR: Renault is teasing the all-new Megane R.S. on its website ahead of the vehicle’s debut in Malaysia. The upcoming model is based on fourth-generation Megane that was first previewed back in November 2017. The car went on sale in 2018 with an on-road price of RM 228,000.

 

 

The new Megane R.S. can be seen on the Renault Malaysia’s website with its whole body having a coved in white cloth, in turn, has an R.S. logo on it. The teaser image also shows that the car is ‘coming soon’, which affirms its imminent debut. This sports car is available in three trims that include Sport, Cup and Trophy.

The four-wheeler is powered by a 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with two different tunings (depending on variants). The first two trims i.e. Sport and Cup get a maximum power output of 276 hp and a peak torque of 390 Nm.

Whereas, the range-topping Trophy variant receives the maximum power output of 292 hp and 420 Nm of torque. Moreover, the drive is sent to the front wheels either via a tried-and-true six-speed manual or a six-speed Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) automatic.

Among the two chassis setup - Sport and Cup. While the Sport gets a rally-derived hydraulic compression bump stops, a brake torque vectoring system, and 4Control four-wheel steering system, the Cup chassis is equipped with Torsen limited-slip differential, 10% stiffer anti-roll bars and 30% tighter springs.

Furthermore, Trophy is based on the Cup chassis but is built with weight-reducing measures and outputs more power than Cup.
However, it is yet to be revealed that which of the variant(s) are going to be launched in Malaysia.

The upcoming Megane R.S. will offer to choose among five different modes, namely Normal, Comfort, Sport, Personal (which can be customised) and Race. The centre stack also houses an R.S. drive button that can be used to switch between Race and Sport mode.
