KUALA LUMPUR: Chinese automaker BYD will soon make its Malaysian debut with the launch of two of its electric vehicles, Atto 3 and e6. With the launch scheduled for early December 2022, the deliveries will begin in Q1 of 2023.

    As per reports, the official distributor of BYD vehicles in Thailand, Rever Automotive has prepared to deliver 5000 units of the Atto 3 in 2022. Out of the 5k quota, 2,507 units came just on day one, thus painting a pretty solid picture for the brand and its EV.

    For now, Atto 3 is offered in a single Extended Range trim, however, from November 11, the automaker will offer the car in the Standard Range version as well.

    Let us get to know the BYD Atto 3 in detail -

    Powertrain configuration: The Thai-spec Atto 3 Extended Range is powered by a front-mounted motor generating a maximum power of 204 PS along with a peak torque of 310 Nm.

    Performance: The EV accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 7.3 seconds. When fully charged, the EV offers a range of 420 km.

    Battery: The setup includes BYD’s Blade LFP battery in the 60.49 kWh version which takes 45 minutes to charge from 0 to 80 percent via 80 kW DC. The battery can even power electric appliances via its V2L system at up to 2.2 kW.

    Handling: A smooth ride is assured through MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link setup at the rear.

    Features: Part of the EVs spec sheet are several advanced driver assistance features including adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward collision warning, AEB, blind spot warning, rear collision warning, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear cross-traffic braking.

    Also part of the kit is active and passive safety features like traction control, hill start assists, tyre pressure monitoring, anti-lock braking system, stability control, parking sensors at front & back, seat belt reminders for front & rear seats, 360-degree surround view camera, and ISOFIX child seat anchor points.
