BYD Seal coming soon to Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: It was only recently that BYD Malaysia launched its very-first offering in the local market, the Atto 3.

At the launch event several announcements were made, one of which includes the names of its upcoming cars - the Seal and the Dolphin EV. While you can check details about the latter here, it’s time to discuss the former.

Here’s what we know about the upcoming BYD Seal -

• BYD SD Motors Malaysia, the official distributor of BYD cars in Malaysia, aims to launch the Seal EV by Q4 of 2023
• Unlike the Atto 3, the Seal’s electric motor powers the rear wheels or all four wheels
• Though we are scarce on the details, in its home country the Seal is offered in four variant options. The same might be true for Malaysia as well

• The power output range from 201 PS to 523 PS (between the four trims)
• The Seal is the only BYD with a cell-to-body (CTB) structural battery system; meaning the battery is a structural element of the vehicle and not combined with modules

• The CTB structural battery results in enchanted battery pack utilization, from 50% to 66%
• Two sets of batteries are available based on the variants - a 61.44 kWh and 82.56 kWh
• The range-topping AWD Performance model completes the century sprint in just 3.8 seconds
