Chery Malaysia celebrates Paralympians with special vehicle deliveries

KUALA LUMPUR:  Chery Malaysia recently hosted an event to honour Malaysia’s Paralympians, celebrating their achievements and contributions to sports in Malaysia.

The event, held at Chery’s showroom in Glenmarie, Selangor, also marked the delivery of Chery vehicles to Paralympians who had taken advantage of an exclusive discount programme offered by the generous brand.

The event brought together the athletes’ families, Ministry of Youth and Sports officials, and representatives from the Paralympic Council of Malaysia.

As much as it was a day that saw the delivery of their cars,  It was also a day to celebrate resilience, hard work, of the athletes who  have raised the Malaysian flag up high on the international sporting stage.

During the event, Chery handed over two vehicles: the OMODA 5 to shot put silver medallist Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli and the OMODA E5 to badminton gold medallist Cheah Liek Hou.

Another gold medallist, powerlifting champion Bonnie Bunyau Gustin, who also set a world record, had also booked a TIGGO 8 PRO but was unable to attend the ceremony.

Chery Malaysia’s Vice President, Michael Chew, highlighted the brand’s commitment to supporting athletes during his speech. “Our Paralympians exemplify the strength and resilience that inspire us all. At Chery, we are honoured to stand beside them in their journey, celebrating their victories and supporting their aspirations,” he said.

Chery offered these exclusive discounts to Malaysia’s athletes last year, before they headed to the Paris 2024 Olympics and Paralympics.

Gold medallists qualified to take an opportunity on a 50% discount on models like the TIGGO 8 PRO, OMODA 5, and OMODA E5, while silver medallists and semifinalists could enjoy a 30% discount. 

All qualified athletes were eligible for a 15% discount on the same range of vehicles. The program was aimed at giving athletes access to Chery’s advanced vehicle technology while promoting sustainability.

The celebration also highlighted Chery’s broader commitment to sports and inclusivity. Beyond the Paralympians’ initiative, Chery Malaysia has been actively involved in supporting local sports.

In 2024, the brand organized the Chery Eco Run in Putrajaya and sponsored various events, including the Borneo Marathon, GFNY Kuala Lumpur cycling event, and even a friendly badminton tournament for media members.

This year, Chery also plans to further deepen its engagement with Malaysia’s youth, through collaborations with the Malaysian Youth Council and other initiatives to encourage sports participation among young adults.

“We are fully committed to deepening our involvement in sports, particularly at the local level, to inspire young and emerging athletes to excel further while also encouraging the public to embrace a healthier and more active lifestyle,” Michael Chew reiterated.

This sort of initiative by Chery Malaysia shows their efforts on their ongoing mission to integrate mobility, sustainability, and social responsibility.

By showing their support to local athletes and promotion of active lifestyle, the brand is striving to foster a more inclusive and healthier society for all.
