Chery Tiggo Cross starts local production in Malaysia – Turbo and Hybrid from RM88,800

KUALA LUMPUR: Production is now officially underway for the all-new Chery TIGGO CROSS, as units of the brand’s latest compact SUV start rolling off the line at Inokom’s assembly plant in Kulim, Kedah.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Where is the Chery TIGGO CROSS assembled in Malaysia?

It is assembled at the Inokom plant in Kulim, Kedah, marking Chery’s commitment to local production.
  • What is the range of the TIGGO CROSS Hybrid CSH?

Chery claims the hybrid variant can deliver up to 1,000km on a full tank and charge.
  • The model was only launched in Malaysia on July 9, and less than a month later, it’s already in local production — a quick turnaround which Chery Malaysia is keen to point out to show Chery’s growing momentum in the Malaysian market.

Offered in two variants — a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol and a 1.5L Hybrid CSH — the TIGGO CROSS slots in as Chery’s most affordable SUV to date. It’s a move clearly aimed at widening the brand’s reach, targeting buyers who want something compact and modern, but still packed with useful tech.

“The TIGGO CROSS is our smallest and most affordable SUV yet — a modern crossover that speaks to a new generation of drivers who want efficiency, style, and smart technology in one exciting package,” said Michael Chew, Vice President of Chery Malaysia. “We are proud to assemble it right here in Malaysia, leveraging local capabilities and strategic partnerships that ensure we deliver global quality with local relevance.”

Inokom, which handles assembly for several brands at its Kedah plant, echoed the sentiment. “We sincerely thank Chery for their continued trust in Inokom as a valued partner,” said Sui Keng Huat, Managing Director of Inokom Corporation Sdn Bhd. “The introduction of this new model is a testament to our strong collaboration and aligned ambitions.”

At the heart of the hybrid variant is what Chery calls the Super Hybrid (CSH) system — a setup that blends elements of both plug-in hybrid and traditional hybrid tech.

While it isn’t a PHEV in the conventional sense, Chery claims it combines the best of both worlds, offering better energy efficiency and EV-like performance for day-to-day urban use.

The numbers Chery is quoting are bold — up to 1,000 km of range from a full tank and charge, which would put the TIGGO CROSS Hybrid among the longest-range vehicles in its class. It's clearly designed with daily drivers in mind, especially those who clock serious mileage but want to keep fuel stops to a minimum.

Chery said, the locally-assembled TIGGO CROSS is a cornerstone of Chery’s broader localisation strategy. By building the car here, the company says it can better tailor its offerings to Malaysian customers while keeping prices competitive.

“Assembling the TIGGO CROSS in Malaysia underscores Chery’s deep commitment to the local market while enhancing our capacity to offer more competitive, accessible vehicles,” Chew added. “It reflects our broader localisation strategy and long-term vision for sustainable growth within Malaysia’s automotive landscape.”

Globally, the TIGGO CROSS isn’t just a budget crossover — it’s a volume driver. In March 2025, Chery marked the export of its one-millionth unit from Dalian Port, China. That milestone highlights how important the model is to the company’s global expansion efforts.

In Malaysia, the TIGGO CROSS Turbo variant is priced from RM88,800 (Peninsular Malaysia), while the Hybrid CSH starts at RM99,800.

Four colours are available for each variant — Turbo buyers can choose between Carbon Black, Phantom Grey, Khaki White, and Blood Stone Red, while the Hybrid CSH gets the same three colours, with Moonlight Silver replacing the red option.

Deliveries of the Chery TIGGO CROSS to customers will commence this August.
