Denza B8 officially launches in Malaysia: prices start from RM458,800

KUALA LUMPUR: Denza Malaysia has officially launched the B8 in Malaysia, with prices sitting at RM518,800 for the Premium variant and RM458,800 for the Dynamic.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How much does the Denza B8 cost in Malaysia?

The Denza B8 is priced at RM458,800 for the Dynamic 7-seater and RM518,800 for the Premium 6-seater. Both prices are before insurance and registration fees.
  • What kind of powertrain does the Denza B8 use?

The B8 runs a DMO Super Hybrid system combining a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with dual electric motors and a 36.8kWh BYD Blade Battery, producing 450kW and 760Nm in total.
  • What is the electric range of the Denza B8?

Denza rates the B8 at up to 115km of pure electric range on the NEDC cycle. Combined with a full 91-litre tank, the total claimed range is 1,040km.
  • It is the brand's first DMO Super Hybrid model to go on sale here, and it brings a plug-in hybrid setup to what is otherwise a fairly serious off-road-capable SUV.

The B8 is built around three main things: the DMO Super Hybrid platform, a hydraulic suspension system called DiSUS-P, and a cabin that Denza clearly wants you to think of as genuinely premium rather than just well-equipped.

"The DENZA B8 marks an important milestone for DENZA in Malaysia as we introduce our first-ever DMO Super Hybrid technology to the market," said Jacob Ma, Managing Director of BYD Malaysia.

"As we strengthen our presence here, we are not only focused on introducing pure electric vehicles, but also expanding our range of new energy mobility solutions to better serve the diverse needs of Malaysian customers. This launch reflects our commitment to offering more choice in new energy vehicles, while continuing to bring advanced technology, versatility and a truly premium ownership experience to the market."

    What's under the bonnet

The drivetrain pairs a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with dual electric motors and a 36.8kWh BYD Blade Battery. Combined system output is 450kW( 612PS) and 760Nm, with power going to all four wheels through an intelligent 4WD setup.

On a full charge and a full tank, the B8 claims a total range of 1,040km on the NEDC cycle. Electric-only range is rated at 115km, also NEDC. The fuel tank holds 91 litres, so the maths works out if you are doing long highway stints between charges.

For charging, you get up to 120kW DC fast charging (30% to 80% in around 16 minutes), 11kW AC charging, and a 6.6kW V2L function if you need to run external devices.

    The suspension setup

DiSUS-P is an intelligent hydraulic body control system that handles both ride comfort and off-road adjustment. It offers up to 140mm of ride height adjustment, a maximum wading depth of 890mm, an approach angle of 34 degrees, and a departure angle of 35 degrees. Tyres are 275/55R20 across the range.

    Inside and out

The exterior takes on what Denza describes as a Starship Mecha-inspired look, complete with LED daytime running lights and sculpted bodywork. It is a fairly bold design for what sits at the upper end of the Malaysian SUV market.

Inside, the two variants differ mainly in seating configuration. The Premium is a six-seater with second-row captain seats, integrated ottomans, ventilation and massage functions. The Dynamic is a seven-seater with a bench seat in the second row that features electric recline and ventilation. Both have fully electric folding for the rear rows.

Boot space ranges from 147 litres to 920 litres in the seven-seater, and up to 902 litres in the six-seater. A Devialet 18-speaker audio system comes standard on both.

Five exterior colours are available: Alpine White, Dawn Gold, Eclipse Black, Emerald Green and Nebula Silver. Interior options are Onyx Black and Jasper Brown, and any exterior colour can be paired with either interior.

    Ownership package

The B8 comes with a fairly comprehensive after-sales package:

    • 6-year or 150,000km vehicle warranty
    • 6-year complimentary scheduled maintenance worth RM10,000
    • 8-year or 160,000km high voltage battery warranty
    • 8-year or 160,000km drive unit warranty
    • Complimentary V2L adapter worth RM700
