Elon Musk confirms Tesla Roadster to get an overall driving range of above 1,000 km

KUALA LUMPUR: Elon Musk, the co-founder, CEO, and product architect of Tesla, Inc. has revealed that the all-electric Tesla Roadster will provide (on a full charge) an overall driving range of “above 1,000 km”. The revelation came in response to Ryan McCaffrey’s (a podcast host) tweet, asking whether the new Roadster will get similar technologies like the recently updated Model S and X.

Tesla Roadster range

The second-generation Roadster was revealed back in November 2017. The car is capable of covering 0 to 97 kmph run in just 1.9 seconds, while it takes 4.2 seconds for the 0 to 161 kmph sprint. It can attain a top speed of 402 kmph and has an overall driving range of 998 km on a single charge. The electric motors are powered by a 200 kWh battery, which can provide a total torque of 10,000 Nm.

The all-electric coaster is based on a completely bespoke platform. It features such an aggressive styling at the front. The slender LED headlights join with the slim intakes which are present at the corners of the bumper.

The car comes with a sculpted bodywork, which gets heavily-flared fenders having the cues including an air outlet. The outlet is placed behind the front wheels. Coming to the rear, there is a small active rear wing, which is pushed above the ultra-thin tail lights. On the other hand, a prominent diffuser element takes the entire lower section. All these elements make the vehicle look stunning to the eyes.

Ingressing inside, there is a sizeable portrait-format touchscreen on the dash. It is a part of the car’s infotainment system, and the passengers can also tap away at it. Also, the cabin is more or less minimalistic and straightforward with less fancy elements.

Tesla Roadster will be headed towards production in 2020 and will carry a base price tag of the US$200,000, which is equivalent to RM 798,000 in Malaysia. One can also register his/her name for pre-booking by paying a sum of US$50,000 (RM 200,000). However, the pre-bookings are limited only to the first 1000 customers.
