Tesla Model Y L debuts in Malaysia ahead of imminent launch

KUALA LUMPUR: Launched in China last year, the all-new Tesla Model Y L is now ready to hit the Malaysian shores. Ahead of the official launch, the EV giant has previewed this long-wheelbase, six-seater electric SUV and revealed its local specifications, with the only missing piece of the puzzle being the price.

Tesla Model Y L: What do we know so far?

• The longer wheelbase model of the EV measures 4,976 mm in length, 2,129 mm in width, and 1,668 mm in height, and spans a wheelbase of 3,040 mm. Compared to the standard Model Y, it is 179 mm longer, 44 mm taller, and has a 150 mm longer wheelbase, offering improved cabin space. 
• Along with larger dimensions, the stretched wheelbase vehicle features a redesigned roofline and a re-engineered rear spoiler. These aerodynamic tweaks contribute to the EV’s efficiency and high-speed stability. 

• The EV comes with a 2-2-2 seating layout and a spacious boot area, offering a maximum expandable volume of 2,539 litres (409 litres more than the regular version). Tesla claims that it can accommodate two 24-inch and one 20-inch suitcase.
• Other cabin highlights include - a 16-inch central touchscreen infotainment system, an 8-inch rear display, wireless smartphone charging pads, a panoramic glass roof, ambient lighting, and a hands-free tailgate.

• At the core lies a dual-motor AWD setup delivering a maximum power of 462 PS, 0-100 kmph acceleration time of 5 seconds and a top speed of 201 kmph. 
• While the capacity of the battery pack is undisclosed, the mentioned driving range is 681 km (on the WLTP cycle).
• The EV also features an adaptive damping suspension system for improved ride quality.
