Ford Malaysia continues to maintain current selling prices

Kuala Lumpur: US automaker Ford Motor Co has released a statement claiming that the company will maintain its current selling prices despite the challenging automotive market because of the depreciating Malaysian currency.

Ford Malaysia and Asia-Pacific Emerging Markets MD David Westerman told reporters after launching the new Ford Ranger in Petaling Jaya, “ The automotive industry is not immune to local headwinds as it has impacted imported goods and component parts. It does put challenges on the industry and we are not immune to that. However, our year to date sales has been very consistent. So, we will not be making any price adjusting announcement in the near future.”

More and more international automakers are stepping forward to increase prices of their vehicles. Reports suggest that the increase in prices is due to depreciating ringgit, which has fallen 20% year-to-date against the US dollar. The increasing prices can not be stopped as there is no clear indication on when the ringgit will rebound, UMW Toyota was quoted in the report.

Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd also reported earlier In September that the automaker may also increase selling price of its models if the ringgit continues to drop against the US dollar.

Ford has really taken a bold step to maintain its prices, it might be because the American company has done a partnership with Sime Darby Auto Connexion Sdn Bhd where the company has begun local assembly of Transit, a light commercial vehicle since 2014 at Sime Darby’s Inokom facility in Kulim, Kedah.

Ford has officially launched its all new range of Ford Ranger models, namely Ranger XL, Ranger XLT and Ranger WildTrak which will be available in all Ford showrooms nationwide.

The all-new Ford Ranger will carry an on-the-road price tag in Peninsular Malaysia for the Ranger XL as RM91,588 while the Ranger XLT will be priced at RM101,388 and the 3.2L Ranger WildTrak will be priced at RM132,188.
