    What do we know about Volvo’s wireless car charging technology test?

    The said test will take place in Sweden, has a duration of three years, and volunteering the test is a fleet of electric Volvo XC40.

    During the whole duration of the test, each Volvo EV will be used for more than 12 hours a day. Also, as a side test of the durability of EVs in commercial use the automaker wants to rack up 100,000 km per year.

    These XC40’s will run as taxis in Sweden and get charged at specially developed stations called Momentum Dynamics.

    Speaking of which, these Volvo wireless charging stations will send energy to the EV via charging pads embedded into the street. The energy will be picked up by a receiver unit fitted inside the XC40.

    Volvo’s R&D boss Mats Moberg explained the test saying, “Gothenburg Green City Zone lets us try exciting new technologies in a real environment and evaluate them overtime for a potential future broader introduction.”
