Geely’s new BMA platform to underpin its entry-level models
KUALA LUMPUR: Geely introduces its first-ever independently developed modular platform, called as the B-segment Modular Architecture (BMA), that will be used on its entry-level models including SUVs, MPVs, sedans, crossovers, and even wagons. The new platform follows concepts from the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) which was built in partnership with Volvo.
Geely says that the platform will remain technically advanced in the future as well, offering incredible support to its upcoming production frames and immense scalability options. Moreover, the new architecture is considered to be industry’s leading platform in regard to intelligent safety, vehicle power and extendability.
The layout of the new architecture is capable of accommodating different powertrains like 1.0-litre, 1.4-litre, and 1.5-litre turbocharged engines, in hybrid electric as well as plug-in hybrid configurations. The first BMA-based model from the stable of Geely vehicles will be the upcoming B-segment SUV, christened as SX11. The reports from a Chinese automotive portal, Gasgoo, however, states that it will be called as Xingyue.
The B-segment SUV, SX11 is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with direct-injection system that produces a max power of 179 PS and a peak torque of 255 Nm. The new SUV is expected to hit the market in latter half of 2018.
In the press conference, Geely also mentioned that the new architecture will be used by other overseas subsidiary brands of the company. The models will be produced in Southeast Asia first followed by other production sites in the Middle East, South America, Africa, and Western Europe.
