GWM Ora 07 bookings now open in Malaysia, launch imminent

KUALA LUMPUR: Great Wall Motors has officially begun accepting pre-orders for its upcoming electric vehicle, the Ora 07, in Malaysia. It is a coupe-esque electric sedan (also known as Lighting Cat) that is set to rival the likes of the recently launched BYD Seal.

The Ora 7 will be available in two trims in Malaysia - Long Range and Performance. The former is powered by a front-mounted single motor generating a maximum power of 204 PS and a peak torque of 340 Nm. Feeding the motor is an 83.5 kWh ternary lithium-ion battery pack that lets the EV cruise up to 640 km (on the NEDC cycle). 

On the contrary, the Performance trim runs on a dual-motor AWD setup tuned to deliver 408 PS and 680 Nm, enabling the EV to hit the century sprint in just 4.3 seconds. The battery configuration remains the same as the Long Range but offers a slightly shorter range at 550 km. The said battery supports both AC and DC charging; the latter juices it up from 30-80% in approx 30 mins.

In terms of design, the Ora 07 features a smooth appearance with a sleek roofline, small round LED headlamps, frameless windows, and retractable door handles. It is also kitted with daytime running lights, LED tail lights, an adaptive electric rear spoiler, 18-inch alloys, and a panoramic glass roof. Three available colour choices are - Crystal Purple, Amethyst Gray, and Jade White.

The interior is likely to come equipped with a 10.25-inch instrument display, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a head-up display, ambient lighting system, an 11-speaker sound system, and an automatic air-conditioning system.

The GWM Ora 07 is expected to launch in Malaysia later this month. The customers who pre-book the EV during the pre-launch promotion are entitled to get a complimentary five-year maintenance package covering parts and labour costs.
