GWM updates best-selling Haval H6 HEV in Malaysia with classier Interior and longer battery warranty

KUALA LUMPUR: GWM Malaysia has given one of Malaysia's top-selling hybrid SUV, the Haval H6 HEV, a subtle refresh aimed at improving what’s already been working.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What are the key updates for the 2025 GWM Haval H6 HEV?

The SUV now comes with a Phantom Black interior featuring soft-touch materials and silver highlights, along with an extended hybrid battery warranty of 10 years/1,000,000 km (transferrable to the next owner).
  • What are the performance and safety highlights of the H6 HEV?

It pairs a 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine with a hybrid system producing 243 PS and 530 Nm, while offering Level 2 driver assistance features like Adaptive Cruise Control, Traffic Jam Assist, and Automatic Emergency Braking.
  • While the drivetrain and mechanicals remain untouched, the update brings a darker, more elegant cabin option and an even longer battery warranty.

Headlining the update is the new “Phantom Black” interior. It’s not just a simple colour swap — the cabin gets soft-touch finishes and new silver trim and an all black dash to lend a more premium and sportier feel, providing an option for those that just want things to be in black and silver.

Don't worry, for those who loved the three coloured interior theme, you still have an option to kit your vehicle out with that interior.

According to GWM, it’s a direct response to what Malaysian buyers have been asking for — something with a bit of premium feel, but without losing the car’s practicality and everyday usability.

What’s unchanged — but worth revisiting — is what’s under the hood. The H6 HEV pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a two-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT), a setup that delivers 243 PS and 530 Nm of torque combined.

The system is tuned more for smoothness and efficiency rather than outright speed, but there’s no overlooking that the system still provides plenty of punch for overtaking and highway work.

In fact, it’s this balance that’s helped the H6 HEV carve out a strong reputation locally as a family-friendly SUV that doesn’t feel sluggish when fully loaded.

GWM has also leaned into real-world fuel efficiency claims, recently completing a long-distance challenge where the SUV covered over 1,000 km on a single tank — now certified by ASEAN Records. It’s a bit of a flex, clearly — but now, GWM says, it has the paperwork to prove it.

On the safety front, the H6 HEV continues to offer a comprehensive suite of driver assistance features. This includes Level 2 autonomous driving capabilities such as Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning, and Traffic Jam Assist. There’s also Automatic Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Detection, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, making it one of the better-equipped models in its price bracket.

Another big change is the upgraded warranty. The hybrid battery now gets 10 years or 1,000,000 km of coverage — up from the previous 8 years — and GWM says this is fully transferrable to subsequent owners.

That’s good news for resale value and a clear signal that the company is confident in its long-term battery durability. The rest of the coverage remains unchanged but with some new next owner caveats.

7 years/200,000 km for the vehicle, 10 years/1,000,000 km for the engine (7-years/200,000km for next onwer), and 8 years/1,000,000 km for the hybrid system( 8-years/200,000km for next owner).

No changes have been announced to the price (RM139,800) or equipment list, so the H6 HEV continues as before — just now with a sharper interior and a firmer commitment to long-term ownership.

For those who weren’t convinced the first time, this refresh might be enough to nudge it back into consideration.
