Honda City Hatchback: 6 First-in-segment features

The all-new Honda City Hatchback entered the Malaysian market last year in December and wooed everyone with its fabulous looks. Complementing its stylish appearance are advanced tech features, a hybrid powertrain, and a strong safety net. 

The Honda City hatchback is available in four variants - 1.5 S, 1.5 E, 1.5 V, and e:HEV RS hybrid at a price ranging between RM 75,670 and RM 107,783. The mentioned prices are on-the-road without insurance and include the ongoing sales and service tax rebate that is valid until June 30, 2022. It also covers a five-year, unlimited mileage warranty and five complimentary labour services. 

In today’s article, we will check out the first-in-segment features of this new age hatchback. So, without any further ado, let’s get started. 

Ultra seats

The City Hatchback comes with 4-Modes ULTRA Seats, which is a practical and versatile first in its class feature that enables flat-folding and flipping up of the rear seats in four configuration modes - Utility, Long, Tall, and Refresh. These cater to different storage needs of the occupants by maximising the rear space when transporting items. 

• Utility mode: It flattens both rear seats of the hatchback and expands the boot to accommodate bulky items.
• Long mode: No space for long items? No worries, this mode reclines the front passenger seat and lowers the rear seat to make room for lengthy items. 
• Refresh mode: It transforms front seats into a comfortable lounge-like setting, which is no ordinary car seat configuration. 
• Tall mode: To fit in tall items, this mode flips the rear seats up to create more floor to ceiling space for items like furniture and plants

Remote Engine Start  

Another advanced and first-in-segment feature available with the Honda City Hatchback is the Remote Engine Start. It adds to the convenience and comfort of the passengers as they can remotely activate the car’s engine and air-conditioning system. This means it cools down the car and warms up the engine from a distance. Honda offers this feature with the top variants of the City Hatchback viz. RS e:HEV and V.

Rear Air Conditioning Ventilation 

With the City Hatchback, Honda also offers a class‑leading rear air conditioning ventilation system that lets the rear passengers experience cool comfort.

Electric Parking Brake

This energetic hatchback also gets an electric parking brake that allows the driver to conveniently activate and deactivate the parking brake with a flick or press of a button. It is exclusively on offer with the range-topping model.

Honda Sensing

In terms of safety, the Honda City Hatchback is the first in its class to offer the most complete package of the advanced safety technology called Honda SENSING. Included in the pack are Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, Collision Mitigation Braking System, Lane Keep Assist System, Road Departure Mitigation, Lane Departure Warning, and Auto High Beam. 

Honda LaneWatch

On top of the Honda Sensing, the City Hatchback is kitted with an additional segment-first safety feature, known as the Honda LaneWatch. This system uses a camera to reduce blind spots. It gets activated with the tap of the LaneWatch button or left turn signal and provides a real-time visual on the central display unit. It is available with RS e:HEV and V variants.

Besides these advanced first-in-segment features, the Honda City Hatchback offers unrivalled performance. The 1.5-litre DOHC i-VTEC petrol mill delivers the highest in its class power output of 121 PS and a peak torque of 145 Nm. Meanwhile, Honda’s unique hybrid system combining the 1.5L Sports intelligent Multi-Mode Drive engine and two electric motors 

delivers a combined system output of 109 PS and segment revolutionary peak torque of 253 Nm (equivalent to a D-segment engine torque performance).
