Honda City Hatchback arrives in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Honda Malaysia has just announced today that their all-new model, the City Hatchback is in all their showrooms ready for Malaysians to take ownership.

After two weeks of teasing the car on social media with bookings surpassing 2,000 plus units, this City hatchback arrives to give just one rival a hard time, the Toyota Yaris.

The Toyota Yaris has been a best seller for UMW Toyota since its launch in April 2019. Priced from RM 70,888, the Yaris was designed to give Perodua Myvi owners a vehicle to upgrade. UMW Toyota worked with its car financing partner, Toyota Capital to offer buyers monthly installment payments from just RM 700.00 and this effort got sales moving fast in the past two years.

At the same time, its nearest rival, the Honda Jazz was already seeing a slow decline in demand as the 2020 Honda Jazz had been unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show that same year and it looked like a winner, which led many Malaysians, including us to believe its arrival in Malaysian Honda showrooms was just around the corner.

Well, Covid-19 arrived and it seems that this was not to happen and the 2020 Honda Jazz launch date in Malaysia was all quiet.

Meanwhile, in the middle of 2021, Honda Malaysia teased the possibility of the City Hatchback arriving in Malaysia as it was well-received in the Philippines where it was launched in early 2021 with sales success and also its sales success in Thailand where it had its global unveiling in late 2020.

This all-new Honda model, the City Hatchback comes with versatility which is one of the many reasons for its strong appeal to Malaysians. The well-known Honda Ultra Seat is included which easily adapts to a wide variety of the owner’s lifestyle and cargo-carrying needs.

Inside the cabin you also get interior features such as the One Push with Smart Entry and Remote Engine Start System, an 8-inch Advanced Touchscreen Display Audio with Apple CarPlay Android Auto connectivity also adds to the comfort, convenience, and ease of access for owners.

Under the hood of this City Hatchback is the proven 1.5-litre four-cylinder DOHC i-VTEC engine that produces a maximum power output of 121 PS at 6600 rpm and 145 Nm of torque at 4300 rpm.

Aside from its versatile interior design, driving performance, and fuel efficiency, the City Hatchback is equipped with very advanced safety features that are shared with the popular City sedan and even the Civic and HR-V.

The Honda City Hatchback comes standard with six (6) airbags, G-Force Control (G-CON), Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) Agile Handling Assist (AHA), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Speed Sensing Auto Door Locks, and Multi-View Rear Camera with guidelines.

On top of the model’s safety features, the City Hatchback scored a 5-star safety rating from ASEAN NCAP (ASEAN New Car Assessment Program).

Like the Toyota Yaris, Honda has three variants right now for the City hatchback. The City Hatchback 1.5L S is priced at RM 75,670.00, the City Hatchback 1.5L E is priced at RM 83,080.00 and the City Hatchback 1.5L V spec is priced at RM 87,860.00 (all prices shared include the current sales tax exemption).

The much-talked-about City Hatchback RS with the e-HEV powertrain is only going to be available in early 2022 and its price is yet to be shared.
