Bigger and more practical
Compared to the outgoing model, the second-gen ZS is larger in every aspect. It measures 4,430 mm in length, 1,818 mm in width and 1,502 mm in height, offering better cabin space and comfort for occupants. The boot space is measured at 443 litres, which is expandable up to 1,457 litres with the rear seats folded down.
Fresh design inside out
The new MG ZS boasts a more aggressive front fascia with a redesigned grille and wider air dams. It is paired with a full-width light strip that connects the headlight clusters and incorporates sleek LED daytime running lights. The rear gets a reworked bumper and redesigned taillights, along with the repositioned brand logo on the boot lid and an extended rear spoiler with an integrated stop lamp.
Inside, the updated ZS benefits from a new dashboard layout featuring a new steering wheel, a bigger 12.3-inch infotainment unit, and reshaped AC vents.
Two drivetrain options
As the variants’ names suggest, the SUV comes in both hybrid and pure petrol versions. Of the two, the hybrid will be launching first in Malaysia, followed by the pure-petrol version at a later date.
The new MG ZS Hybrid+ variant features a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine, an electric motor, and a 1.83 kWh battery pack. While the engine generates a maximum power of 102 PS and a maximum torque of 128 Nm, the motor is tuned to deliver 136 PS and 250 Nm. The total system output is rated at 196 PS and 465 Nm of torque, which is enough to propel the vehicle from zero to 100 kmph in 8.7 seconds.
The MG ZS Turbo, on the other hand, runs on a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, producing 170 PS and 275 Nm, paired with a CVT gearbox driving the front wheels.
