Lamborghini to showcase Aventador replacement at Frankfurt

KUALA LUMPUR: The Aventador is powered by a naturally aspirated V12 engine, thus making Lamborghini the last supercar manufacturer to have held on to the powerplant. This mid-engined supercar is long due for a replacement and reports suggests that it would be previewed at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. Further, the upcoming Lamborghini car is said to be a low-volume, electric model.

The car has been codenamed the LB48H, and it would be a hybridized mid-engined car that’ll also feature a naturally-aspirated V12 mill along with electric assistance - adding to the car’s efficiency and performance. Once launched, this supercar will rival with the likes of Ferrari SF90 Stradale that is powered by a 3,990cc V8 turbocharged mill adapted from F154 unit in the F8 Tributo and 488 Pista.

At the top of the Lamborghini Aventador lineup is the Superveloce Jota or the SVJ, in both the Roadster and coupe forms. Both are powered by Lamborghini’s L539 6.5-litre V12 powerplant that makes a maximum power of 770 PS along with a peak torque of 720 Nm. According to Maurizio Reggiani, the company’s chief technical officer the electrification of the car is an outcome of necessity and is not a choice.

The outcome of which is the weight penalty that, according to Reggiani, even with the best lightweight solution adds another 200 kg. It thus makes the next-gen V12 Lamborghini Aventador heavier than before, despite the use of extensive weight-saving measures - including the ones from the Advanced Composite Structures Laboratory in Seattle, Washington.

The upcoming Aventador replacement won’t be alone in this respect, the SF90 Stradale’s hybrid mill architecture adds another 270 kg to the car. The Italian beauties might also tally in terms of combined output. The upcoming V12 Raging Bull is expected to get a total system output of 1000 hp and the Stradale internal combustion engine poops out 780 PS/800 Nm with a maximum electric output of 220.2 PS.
