Lamborghini unveils Spyder version of Huracan Performante at Geneva

KUALA LUMPUR: Do you remember the Lamborghini Huracan Performante that was introduced hardly a year ago? Well, it seems like Lamborghini has given the Huracan Performante a sibling that looks somewhat like it but, with some considerable roof set up and weight changes.

Unveiled at the ongoing preview day of 2018 Geneva International Motor Show, the Huracan Performante Spyder is sure a treat to the eyes. Wearing a blue skin, the new Spyder looked stunning and caught maximum limelight for the day. Moving ahead from its sharp cuts and alluring personality, there’s more you should know about the new Spyder.

One significant difference between the two siblings is the inclusion of a new drop-top over the old hardtop roof. This, we think is responsible for the additional heft, while the coupe commute from 0 to 100 kmph in 2.9 seconds, the new Spyder takes 3.1 seconds. The Huracan Performante Spyder drop-top takes 17 seconds to open and could be operated at the driving speed of 50 kmph. Also, the drop-top fashion has brought more weight to the Spyder, the new Lamborghini weights 1,507 kg, while the hardtop shows 1,382 kg on the scale.

As for under the hood configuration, the new drop-top version house the carry forward mill from the hardtop model. So, on opening the bonnet, be ready to meet the massive 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 engine that effortlessly produces a maximum power output of 640 PS at 8,000 rpm along with 600 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. While the mill remains the same, the hood is where we see a difference, Lamborghini is no longer going with the transparent engine cover, and unlike the roof, the bonnet is now hard and all covered.

Lamborghini has infused the new Spyder with additional roll-over protection due to its soft-top setup. Other than that the car features the fancy Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva package that assures the benefits of aero vectoring and aero load at high-speed cornering.

Though the brand hasn’t released any official statement talking about its availability, we are expecting its deliveries to commence from mid-year.
