KUALA LUMPUR: It is the end of the reign for Tomoyuki Shinnishi as the Chief Executive Officer of Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM). On duty since October 2016, Shinnishi is getting replaced by Shinya Ikeda who assumed office only a few days back.

Prior to his latest position at MMM, Ikeda served as Mitsubishi Corporation Japan's General Manager since 2019 with his career in the auto industry going back to 1995.

Shinya Ikeda's association with Mitsubishi began in 2008, back then his first assignment was to manage Malaysia's automotive business investment. Next, he served as both GM and CFO within MMM, from March 2009 to May 2012. This was followed by Ikeda's return to Mitsubishi Corporation where he held several leadership roles in finance and automotive segments within Mitsubishi across markets like Germany, Japan, Russia, and Indonesia.

On joining MMM as CEO, Ikeda said, "I am excited to join Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia’s team. The company has grown from strength to strength and has now become one of the nation’s leading automotive brands.”

He further added, “As announced in the Mitsubishi Motors Corporation Mid-Term Business Plan last year, MMC will continue to focus on the ASEAN market and particularly Malaysia as the country is one of the most important markets in the world to expand the Mitsubishi brand presence. I look forward to working with the team to contribute with the knowledge and experience that I’ve had. I am also happy to be back in Malaysia as the country is home to various diversified food and culture and also people with enormous talent and potential.”

Not to forget MMM's former CEO, Tomoyuki Shinnishi's contributions. Under his guidance, several new launches happened, including the seven-seater crossover Xpander and the new Triton.
