Perodua Officially launches its Global Manufacturing Sdn Bhd Facility

Kuala Lumpur: The numero uno national carmaker Perodua, has officially inaugurated its Global Manufacturing Sdn Bhd (PGMSB) facility today. The all new facility is nation's first EEV certified automotive manufacturing unit. The plant began its construction in March 2013 and is now officially commenced after a hefty investment of RM1.3 billion. The all-new facility will initially conduct the assembling of all-new Perodua Axia which was produced by PGMSB in August 2014.

Ybhg Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin, Perodua chairman said at the launch, “PGMSB is one of Perodua’s main transformation initiatives to become a globally competitive brand in terms of quality, cost management, and delivery.”

Perodua is Malaysia's number one automotive brand, the brand itself covered almost 1/3rd (32.34%) of the total market share in 2015, selling more than 200,000 units across the country. The Malaysian Automotive Market squeaked a lot under the effect of GST and weakening ringgit in the past year, despite that Perodua kept its position intact and managed to rage the momentum. The local carmaker reached its sales target of 208,000 units for 2015 two months before the year end in October itself. The major reason for the success of Perodua is its wide network of sales. The brand boasts 182 sales branches and 183 service branches nationwide with vehicles being sold in countries like Singapore, Indonesia, Nepal, Brunei, Fiji, Mauritius and Sri Lanka. That closely surmises the growth reason of this Malaysian automotive brand.

Apart from that, sources also suggests that Perodua has delivered around 138,000 units of it's all new A-segment hatchback by December 2015. Also, the upcoming Axia sedan will be assembled at company's all new plant.

Minister of Domestic Trade Cooperatives and Consumerism, YB Dato’ Seri Hamzah Zainuddin officiated the launch of Perodua Global Manufacturing plant. Apart from him, various dignitaries graced the event including the Chairman, Daihatsu Motor Co. Ltd. , Mr. Koichi Ina, Japanese Ambassador to Malaysia, His Excellency Dr Makio Miyagawa, PGMSB Managing Director, YBhg Datuk Ahmad Suhaimi Hashim and Perodua President & CEO, YBhg Datuk (Dr) Aminar Rashid Salleh.

Perodua Chairman also added, “The design, technology and concept of this facility are based on the “Simple, Slim and Compact” philosophy.”

He further explained that “'Simple' here refers to the work process which is easy to understand and implement, while 'Slim”'refers to the efficiency and dedication towards the elimination of wastage in all forms, and 'Compact”'refers to the maximization of space for optimum production.” PGMSB plant is also unique because, it is the first manufacturing plant in the region to feature a jigless concept which has been adopted from Daihatsu of Japan.
