Perodua to offer promotional pricing on child seats under its road safety campaign
KUALA LUMPUR: Perodua is gearing up its child car safety campaign to educate vehicle owners about the necessity of safety devices. This move is initiated in line with the mandatory usage of child seats in cars by the beginning of 2020.
Back in October 2018, members of the transport ministry came to a consensus to make it mandatory for the vehicles to be equipped with child seats. It was decided that the ruling will take effect by 2020. Further, ensuring that furnishing child seats do not hit hard to the pockets of the parents, minister Anthony Loke held talks with the finance ministry to exempt this safety device from SST (sales and services tax).
Datuk Ahmad Suhaimi Hashim, Perodua Auto Corporation VP, Perodua will run targeted campaigns to educate and make people (particularly its customers) aware of the perks of using child car seats throughout the holy month of Ramadan.
Highlighting the importance of this safety campaign, the chairman of Perodua Safety Committee Suhaimi said that the company believes that safety is an imperative need for everyone. He said, “The general lack of compliance by Malaysian motorists with regard to child car seat usage is frightening, to say the least, as children are the most vulnerable occupants in a moving vehicle.”
He further added, “As a Malaysian carmaker, we feel it is our responsibility to educate our customers and the public on road safety. We understand that education is a long-term process, and we are committed to it”
Coming to the affordability of the child safety seats, the automaker will be selling the GearUp child car seats with promotional discounts from May 13 to June 30. It will be offered in two models, for toddlers and infants, both meeting ECE R44 safety standards and are Isofix compatible.
The toddler seat is for kids weighing from 9 kg to 36 kg will be available in red or black color options. On the other hand, the infant unit is around 13 kg and will be offered in red or grey color variant. The seats are priced at RM 780 and RM 660, respectively.
