Polestar EVs will be available in 30 global markets by end of 2022

KUALA LUMPUR: The Sweden-based Polestar is a premium electric performance car brand established by Volvo and Geely in 2017. The brand has a presence in thirteen global markets across Europe, North America, and China and earlier this year, it announced an expansion to five new markets in the Asia Pacific region for 2021. Well, now the brand declared its next move of rapid market expansion at the ongoing IAA Mobility Show 2021. It aims to be present in 30 global markets by the end of 2022.

Some of the new markets to be added to the list include the Middle East (Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates), Luxembourg, and Iceland. The automaker will be announcing their individual market launch timing accordingly. About the rest, no information is available as of now.

Along with making an entry in the new countries, the Swedish automaker is also expanding its retail outlets in the existing ones. Around 100 Polestar Spaces and Destinations will be serving the customers by the end of the year and of course, more will be added next year.

“Growth on this scale is unprecedented and confirms our position as a truly global, pure EV brand,” says Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO, speaking at the 2021 IAA in Munich. “Our unique business model has allowed us to develop the manufacturing capacity we need to satisfy demand. Our digital-first approach means we can enter new markets faster. And, crucially, the service network vital to customer peace of mind is already in place.”

Currently, the company has two performance EVs in its portfolio - Polestar 1 and Polestar 2. The former is a hybrid GT model with a carbon fibre body, 609 hp, and 1,000 Nm output, and an electric-only WLTP range of 124 km (longest of any hybrid car in the world). The Polestar 2, on the contrary, is the brand’s first fully electric car available with dual- and single motor powertrains generating as much as 408 hp and 660 Nm of torque.

The automaker will be soon launching two new EVs - Polestar 3 and the Precept; the latter made its first public appearance at the Munich show.
