Record demand for BYD SEAL in Malaysia: 1,300+ bookings in days

KUALA LUMPUR: Following the unveiling of the BYD SEAL at The Exchange TRX, Sime Darby Motors (SDM) and BYD Malaysia witnessed an unprecedented surge in interest, securing over 1,300 bookings for the new electric vehicle within just four days of its launch.

In response to the exceptional demand, SDM has decided to extend its early bird campaign until March 3, 2024.

Prospective buyers who book the BYD SEAL by this date via the official website or at any of the nationwide showrooms will be gifted with a free home charger and RM800 worth of Gentari or ChargEV charging credits, subject to certain terms and conditions.

Jeffrey Gan, SDM's Managing Director for Southeast Asia, expressed gratitude over the Malaysian market's enthusiastic reception of the BYD SEAL.

He highlighted the car's acclaim for its quality, performance, and value, noting the extension of the booking campaign as a testament to SDM's commitment to fostering the growth of electric vehicles (EVs) in Malaysia.

The BYD SEAL is available in two variants: the RWD Premium and the Performance AWD, with starting prices of RM179,800 and RM199,800, respectively. Customers can choose from a range of colors, including the Performance variant-exclusive Arctic Blue, as well as Cosmos Black, Atlantis Grey, and Aurora White for the Premium model.

The entry-spec variant is powered by a single rear wheel drive electric motor capable of making 312 PS of maximum power and 360 Nm of peak torque, which allows the EV to run from a standstill to 100 kmph in 5.9 seconds. Feeding the motor is a 82 kWh BYD Blade Battery pack, which offers a range of 650 km (on the WLTP cycle).

The Performance AWD variant on the other hand  is powered by a dual drive electric motor capable of making 530 PS of maximum power and 670 Nm of peak torque, which allows the EV to run from a standstill to 100 kmph in 3.8 seconds. Feeding the motor is a 82 kWh BYD Blade Battery pack, which offers a range of 580 km (on the WLTP cycle).

When it comes to charging, both support up to 150kW and take take only 37 minutes to charge the battery from 10 to 80% SoC, ensuring that drivers can quickly recharge and get back on the road. When it comes to AC charging however, the EVs come equipped with 7 kW AC Type 2 charging capabilities and would take a considerable amount of time, approximately 15.2 hours, to charge the units from 0 to 100% state of charge (SoC). 

Equipped with BYD's e-platform 3.0, the SEAL offers a blend of smart technology, efficiency, and safety. This feature-rich EV has been designed to meet the demands of extended travel without frequent stops for recharging.

Calvin Poh, a customer who booked the BYD SEAL after a test drive, praised its design, build quality, and premium interior, noting the quiet and refined driving experience as key deciding factors for his purchase.

To complement the launch, SDM has introduced an extensive aftersales package for the BYD SEAL, including a 6-year or 150,000km vehicle warranty, an 8-year or 160,000km battery warranty, and an 8-year or 150,000km drive unit warranty.

These comprehensive warranties underscore SDM's dedication to customer satisfaction and support long-term ownership confidence.

Additionally, SDM offers Standard and Plus Service packages for the BYD SEAL, providing tailored maintenance options that include tire alignment, balancing, and rotation.

These service packages, available for 3, 6, and 8-year durations, are designed to ensure hassle-free ownership and protect against future price increases, offering significant savings over time.
