Save the date: Tesla official launch in Malaysia on July 20, 2023

KUALA LUMPUR: After establishing its footprint in Singapore and Thailand, Tesla has geared up to mark its official presence in the third Southeast Asia market which is none other than Malaysia. Yes, that’s right! The official local launch of the American EV brand is set to be held on July 20, 2023.

Tesla Malaysia’s Instagram account is also live now with a dark teaser image previewing the front fascia of the upcoming EV. However, there are no official details yet available on which Tesla EV will be first offered on the local shores.

To find out the answer, we can look at the brand’s global portfolio, which includes four models - Model X (three-row SUV), Model S (executive sedan), Model Y (compact crossover), and Model 3 (compact executive sedan. Out of these models, the automaker has already discontinued the former two for the right-hand-drive markets, indicating that the Model 3 and Model Y are the highly anticipated electric vehicles set to arrive in Malaysia. 

In Thailand, both these two Tesla EVs are offered in three different trims - Single Motor RWD, Dual Motor Long Range AWD, and Dual Motor Performance AWD. The power and driving range figures of these variants are as follows -

For the price idea also, we can refer to the Thai market where pricing for the Tesla Model 3 begins at THB 1,759,000 (RM 233k) and goes all the way up to THB 2,309,000 (RM 305k). The Tesla Model Y price ranges between THB 1,959,000 (RM 259k) and THB 2,509,000 (RM 332k).
