Tesla Roadster to get performance-enhancing SpaceX rockets

KUALA LUMPUR: Tesla is the king of innovation in the automobile industry, don't you believe? You will believe it soon after reading this story. After unveiling their plans for uplifting the performance of the Tesla Model 3 that would be better than the BMW M3, now there’s another sensational claim from the company, this time it's the second-gen Tesla Roadster.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk claimed that the new Tesla Roadster will have a special SpaceX package that includes 10 small rocket thrusters for superlative acceleration. He tweeted, “SpaceX option package for new Tesla Roadster will include  ~ 10 small rocket thrusters arranged seamlessly around the car. These rocket engines dramatically improve acceleration, top speed, braking & cornering,” he further added, “Maybe they will even allow a Tesla to fly.”

Everything at this point of time looks dramatic and probable but definitely incredible. The specifications announced earlier for the Tesla Roadster were already next to insanity. The second-gen Roadster, without thrusters, is considered to rip through 0 to 97 kmph in just 1.9 seconds. Also, it claimed to hit the top speed of 402 kmph and an electric range of around 1000 km. It would make it the fastest-accelerating car on this planet.

Musk in a reply to a person on Twitter clarified that there won’t be any fuel-based boosters and the Roadster will be an all-electric sports car. He also mentioned that there will be an electric pump used for replenishing the air while for the storage of the compressed air, COPV (composite overwrapped pressure vessels) will be employed.

For the interested, the company asks for RM200k (US $50,000) as the booking amount while the price of the car is set at RM798k (US $200,000). The new Roadster will enter production in 2020. Tesla is currently inviting bookings for the initial 1000 units.
