The pinnacle of luxury, 2018 Rolls Royce Phantom revealed
KUALA LUMPUR: The brand synonymous with luxury, Rolls Royce has come up with its another marvellous creation, the 2018 Phantom. The next flagship of Rolls Royce has finally entered its eighth generation and features the contemporary Phantom designing with a modern touch. Though the updated Phantom has a range of changes, the original DNA of Phantom is still intact.
At the front, a new set of headlights with LED outline its shape. The front bumper is also redesigned with more vents to improve the aerodynamics in an effective manner. Whereas, the rear profile features a swept-tail like design with new LED tail lights. Though the new elements are incorporated in the all-new Phantom, the overall design is quite similar to the outgoing Phantom.
Though the design has minor changes, the major difference lies in the body structure which is now made up of an all-new aluminum structure known as “Architecture of Luxury”. This new chassis will now feature in the rest of the company’s lineup. Despite using an aluminum body structure, the 2018 Phantom Long Wheelbase variant weighs just 2720 kilograms. In the cabin, a completely refreshed ambiance is introduced.
With two additional layers around the glass and 130 kg of sound insulation, the harshness and noise are completely cut off. According to the British automaker, the 2018 Phantom is 10-percent quieter than the outgoing model. Under the hood, there is a 6.75-litre V12 engine that delivers a maximum power output of 570 PS and peak torque of 900 Nm. The beast is capable enough to push the all-new Phantom to 100 kmph mark from naught in just 5.3 seconds. But, the Phantom is not about power, it is all about the ride, which makes it one of its kind. The self-leveling suspension system further adjusts the stiffness automatically.
One of the key features of Phantom includes self-closing rear doors, which can be operated from both inside and outside the cabin. Another highlighting feature is “The Gallery” which is a single piece dashboard made up of the single glass piece. This makes the overall experience of the drive totally bespoke and mingles well with the rest of the design.
