UMW Toyota records 6.75% growth in March 2026; wraps up Q1 at 15,370 units

KUALA LUMPUR: UMW Toyota has revealed its sales numbers for March 2026. During the last month of the first quarter, the Japanese automaker sold a total of 5,184 vehicles, representing a 6.75% increase over February 2026. The company’s year-to-date sales now stand at 15,370 units.

    UMW Toyota steps up electrification efforts

    After introducing new hybrid models, UMW Toyota launched three battery-electric vehicles in Malaysia earlier this month, marking its first major push into the local EV space. These include -

    • Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV: Imported from India, the Urban Cruiser is a B-segment SUV based on the “Sophisticated Versatile Cruiser” concept. Priced at RM 198,000, it is powered by a 174-PS FWD e-motor and a 61.1 kWh LFP battery, offering a range of 426 km.
    • Toyota Hilux BEV: Built in Thailand, the Hilux BEV is touted as the first global retail pick-up BEV. Like the standard Hilux, it retains a body-on-frame construction and is offered as a double-cab 4x4 version, powered by a dual-motor setup and a 59.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, with a range of 315 km.

    • Toyota bZ4X: The bZ4X is an electric mid-size vehicle that rides on Toyota’s dedicated e-TNGA EV platform, boasting a drag coefficient of 0.27 Cd. It is powered by a 227-PS FWD motor and a 73.1 kWh lithium-ion battery, offering a claimed range of up to 525 km.

    “The automotive industry is entering a period of real transition, with new technologies advancing quickly while expectations around reliability, cost of ownership, and long-term usability remain unchanged,” said UMW Toyota Motor president Datuk Ravindran K.

    “For customers, the shift towards new technologies is only meaningful when it translates clearly into everyday use. What continues to matter is how a vehicle performs over time. It must remain reliable in daily use and manageable to own,” he added. 

    UMW Toyota ownership support initiatives

    UMW Toyota continues to provide structured ownership support to customers with its ongoing initiatives, like -

    • Toyota Extra Mile, guided by six pillars (Extra Rewards, Extra Protection, Extra Convenience, Extra Peace of Mind, Extra Security, and Extra Care), reflects the automaker’s continued focus on building long-term customer trust.
    • Toyota Service Savers programme, offering routine maintenance from RM31 per month.
    • Toyota Extend, which provides extended warranty coverage for selected models nationwide.

    Furthermore, UMW Toyota offers an enhanced digital ecosystem through the Toyota MY App. Customers who download and register on the app between April and June 2026 will get 500 Loyal-T Points, with an additional 500 points awarded upon a service booking via authorised Toyota service centres.
