Volvo XC90 and Honda HR-V Grabs 2016 Green Car of the Year Awards

Volvo XC90 and Honda HR-V Grabs 2016 Green Car of the Year Awards

Kuala Lumpur: Volvo and Honda are up for award grabs again, and, this time, these carmakers have done it in the Green Car segment. The widely celebrated Green Car Journal recently announced the winners of 2016 Green Car Awards at the Washington Auto Show. The news is that Volvo XC90 T8 came out shining with a unique 2016 Luxury Green Car of the Year award while the Honda HR-V bagged 2016 Green SUV of the Year.

Honda HRV and Volvo XC90 are indeed, widely valued vehicles in Malaysia as well. Honda HRV is company's best take in the Crossover segment of Malaysia and is widely popular among the masses. Recent stats showed that Honda HRV covered 21% share of the Japanese carmaker in terms of sales units in 2015, following the Honda City that remained the best-selling Honda model in Malaysia by contributing the largest share of 40%. While the Volvo XC90 was recently launched in December 2015 in Malaysia at a whopping price tag of RM454K and the car is being perceived very well by the car enthusiasts here. Volvo XC90 apart from its green car ensemble also touts a five-star Euro NCAP rating.

Also, we expect that the all new Hyundai Sonata Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) will also grab up an award this time, but looks like Green Car Journal jury was not quite impressed with the South Korean house of innovation. The car recently marked its place among the most prestigious list of the Ward’s 10 Best Engines list. It was for the first time that a plug-in hybrid engine technology was given a place in this world acclaimed list.

The Green Car Awards are a key part of the Washington Auto Show. The Green awards are given on a specific emphasis over the environment sustainability of the car. The Green Car Awards jury judges on various parameter like quality, safety, performance, practicality and market value. Beside that availability and affordability are also ensured so that these cars are accessible to a wide range of green car buyers.

Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of Green Car Journal and CarsOfChange.com, said, "These are stand-out vehicles in an increasingly sophisticated and appealing field of 'green' cars. Rising to the top as award winners mean these three exceptional vehicles set a benchmark in the auto industry's effort to create vehicles that are desirable and efficient while also achieving environmental milestones so important for our driving future."

Apart from the Volvo XC90 and Honda HRV, Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid also won the 2016 Connected Green Car of the Year award. The Malibu Hybrid is based on the hybrid powertrain of the all new Chevy Volt that has an excellent combined driving cycle of 16.6 kmpl. Also, those in queue up for the grab of the Green car awards were the BMW 330e, Audi A3 e-tron, Toyota Prius, and Volvo's another marque XC90 T8.

His childhood craving for the cars started with Hot wheels toys which led him to create pseudo cars on his own.
