Xpeng Malaysia recalls X9 MPV over air suspension issue

KUALA LUMPUR: After Xpeng’s voluntary X9 recall in China, Bermaz Xpeng Sdn Bhd, the brand’s official distributor in Malaysia, also issued a recall notice for the electric MPV. 

Which Xpeng X9 units are affected?

The recall has been issued for the X9 units manufactured before 11 August 2025 due to a potential issue with the front air springs, which are said to have reduced airtightness. This may cause a gradual air leak under extended use in hot, humid conditions and could also trigger malfunction alerts or affect vehicle handling in extreme cases.

The global Xpeng X9 recall involves 33,473 units produced between August 8, 2023 and August 11, 2025. 

Notably, the company has clearly mentioned that the Xpeng X9 from other production batches are not affected.

What corrective action will Xpeng take?

Bermaz Xpeng has announced a complimentary replacement of the complete front air suspension assembly for vehicles affected in Malaysia. To ensure timely implementation, the company is coordinating closely with regional partners and relevant authorities for parts supply, technical procedures and service capacity.

Along with that, the company will extend the warranty coverage for the front air suspension system to 8 years or 160,000km, whichever comes first, starting from the vehicle’s registration date. This extended warranty will be transferable to the vehicle.

Bermaz Xpeng is committed to responsible ownership and transparent communication, and is working closely with XPENG to ensure a smooth and timely recall process for affected customers in Malaysia,” the company said in the official press release.

Owners of the affected models can contact the Xpeng Malaysia customer service hotline at +603 7627 3883 for enquiries or assistance. Customers may also schedule an appointment with an Xpeng Authorised Service Centre through the Xpeng mobile app to facilitate the necessary rectification.
