New Ford Ranger launched in Malaysia, the Raptor coming soon
KUALA LUMPUR: With the first revision dating back to 2015, the Ford Ranger was long due for an update. Now in October 2018, we finally get to witness the second reboot, the all-new Ranger. And that too with the addition of a new powertrain and transmission, this one looks so much better as well.
The XL, XLT, Wildtrak, and a new XLT+ variant make up the different trims which will be available in the Malaysian market. There is also a Ranger Raptor that is scheduled for a KLIMS 2018 launch.
A 2.2-litre TDCi VGT Puma engine is powering the XL and the XLT variants, producing 160 PS of power and 385 Nm of peak torque from 1,600 to 2,600 rpm. A 6-speed Getrag MT82 manual or a 6R80 automatic gearbox are carried over from the last-gen model.
Apart from the Wildtrak and Raptor variants, the XLT+ also gets the new Panther powerhouse. The Panther on the XLT+ model is in a 2.0-litre Si-Turbo single turbo form and produces a power of 180 PS and 420 Nm of peak torque from 1,750 to 2,500 rpm. A Ford 10R80 10-speed automatic unit with SelectShift manual override is the only transmission option available with the XLT+.
The Wildtrak which previously used a 3.2-litre mill now comes with two engine options, a 2.0-litre Si-Turbo engine (same as on the XLT+) or an EcoBlue Bi-Turbo. Matted to a 10-speed auto unit it churns out 213 PS and 500 Nm of peak torque from 1,750 to 2,000 rpm. The latter also features a 4x4 drive system.
Halogen complex surface reflector headlamps, cruise control, cargo LED light, front and rear fog lamps, manual air-conditioning, 16-inch wheels, fabric seats along with a SYNC 1 infotainment system with a 4.2-inch screen and four speakers, and some other features make up for the standard equipment that comes with the Ranger XL. The bump in the features starts from the XLT+ variant with the higher models featuring countless safety features as well. The standard features with add-ons on various models are mentioned below.
As for the pricing, the basic XL variant starts from RM 90,888, with the XLT beginning from RM 109,888. The XLT+ will cost RM 124,888, while the Wildtrak will set you back by RM 134,888. And if you register your vehicles before January 31, 2019, you will get a 2-year or a 40,000 km free maintenance pack. An electrical voucher worth RM 1,000 is also up for grabs for the first 888 customers who register their vehicle before December 31, 2018.
