2019 Hyundai Elantra facelift is more than a mild update

KUALA LUMPUR: The Hyundai Elantra gets a mid-life facelift for the 2019 model which is certainly more than just a mild update. The sedan has been refreshed dramatically at both ends, front as well as rear while the rest of the body appears to be the same as before.

 2019 Elantra

At the front, the 2019 Hyundai Elantra gets a geometrical treatment, primarily of a triangle. All the cuts and edges incorporated into it are in form of a triangle. Starting from the sharp headlamps to bumper modification to fog lamps design, everything resembles a triangle.

The sleek headlamps have made way for the triangle-shaped headlights with DRLs that are bigger than before. The bumper corners get a distinctive triangle-like polygonal design that also acts as a housing for fog lights. The bolder, Y-shaped front grille seems to be inspired from the Kona and the all-new Santa Fe.

 2019 Elantra rear

Talking about the changes at the rear, taillights get a completely new design with an inverted L-styling, license plate gets relocated to the bumper and trunk lid, too, gets a new design. Additionally, there are integrated diffusers on the rear that add to its visual flair. The 2019 Elantra also gets new alloys as a part of the mid-cycle update.

 2019 Elantra interior

From the inside, the sedan gets a new instrument cluster with a detailed layout, an updated infotainment system, a new steering wheel with controls and a revamped centre console. Other than this, the buttons situated on the centre stack have been rearranged while the AC vents have been given a brushed-aluminium look.

 2019 Elantra side

The details about the engine department are yet to be disclosed. However, considering the US lineup, the Elantra is available in three options - a 1.4-litre turbocharged engine with 128 PS, a 2.0-litre power mill that churns out a max power of 147 PS and the top-end option with a 1.6-litre engine. The power mills get three transmission options, including 7-speed DCT, 6-speed automatic or 6-speed manual gearbox.
