2020 Audi S8 introduced, check out its features, specs, and more

KUALA LUMPUR: The German automaker has finally revealed the Audi A8s hooter, newer version, the S8. The car features a powerful engine and comes with high-performance figures.

Speaking of which, the S8 version is powered by a 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 TFSI mill that churns out a maximum power of 571 PS along with a peak torque of 800 Nm. Though the automaker has not revealed the sedan’s 0-100 kmph time frame, we are pretty sure it would rest below 4 seconds. As for the top-speed, it is electronically controlled at 250 kmph. The mill is lined with iron that ensures low friction and hence ultimate smoothness. The exhaust system comes with an automatically actuated flap that delivers a distinctive sound.

Like all the Audi A8 versions, this one too is fitted with the car makers mild-hybrid (MHEV) tech. The MHEV system includes a 48V belt alternator starter that is accompanied by a lithium-ion battery. Audi claims that the said system helps improve the car’s fuel efficiency.

Performance-enhancing elements on Audi S8 -

• Predictive active suspension - This system is said to reduce the roll or pitch during braking and acceleration. It is accompanied by a front-facing camera that reads the surface ahead and preps the suspension accordingly. This system can also raise the ride height by 50 mm, making the entry and exit more comfortable.
• New Comfort+ mode - This new mode calls for enhanced ride quality, here the sedan’s body lean into the corner by 3 degrees, thus reducing the lateral force acting on the driver and passengers

• Dynamic mode - It makes the driver feel more surefooted by providing a maximum roll angle of 2.5 degrees during fast cornering (standard suspension provides for 5 degrees)
• Dynamic all-wheel steering - It provides independent steering angle adjustments for both the front and rear axles.
• Sport differential - It reduces oversteer as it helps break the inner rear wheel
• Lastly, buyers can opt for brakes with larger carbon-fibre ceramic discs that together with 10-piston calipers save up to 9.6 kg weight

As for the styling, the S8 gets a typical makeover that includes satin aluminium exterior finishes on side mirror caps and air curtains, twin exhaust exits, HD matrix LED headlights with Audi laser light, wheel sizes up to 21-inch, and OLED taillights. The car is available in 9 exterior color options.

On the inside, the S8 greets you with Carbon Vector with special three-dimensional depth effect cabin inlay, touchscreen infotainment display, virtual cockpit, seats with heating, massage, and ventilation function. There’s also a noise cancellation sound system.

The car’s safety profile consists of a total of 38 driver assistance features that are divided into Tour and City package. Included in the list are predictive efficiency assist, adaptive cruise assist, lane tracking, and traffic jam assist. There is also the central driver assistance controller (zFAS) that consists of 12 ultrasound sensors, five radar sensors, 12 ultrasound sensors, and six cameras.
