2021 Cycle & Carriage Study Grant nurtures young talent

In recent years, CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) has become a buzzword as it is now an increasingly important metric within the business realm. The automakers are also on the front end of fulfilling their responsibilities towards society, and a recent example of this is the study grant provided by Cycle & Carriage.

The company offers this financial aid to deserving underprivileged youths while giving them a chance to grow their career in the automotive field. The award ceremony was organised at Cycle & Carriage Petaling Jaya. 

Terms & conditions

Framed to help students from the B40 group, the grant was meant for the applicants fulfilling the following criteria - 

• Malaysian citizen
• Ages 16 years and above
• Already enrolled in an automotive training institution accredited by the Department for Skills Development of the Ministry of Human Resources or Ministry of Higher Education. 

Recipients & amount 

The recipients of the C&C grant studying in their third year are -

• 19-year-old Teshvinder Singh a/l Sarjit Singh, Diploma in Automotive Technology. 
• 20-year-old Lee Kai Jing, Diploma in Automotive Technology. 
• 19-year-old Lim Chin Lun, Diploma in Automotive Technology. 
• 19-year old Shamstephen a/l Arulpragasam, Diploma in City & Guilds 
• 20-year old Vinod Vasudevan, Master Technician Course

Upon completion of their studies, these students will start their careers with a year-long position in C&C.

The grant includes a bursary of RM 5,000 per annum for a maximum of 3 years.

The students also thanked C&C for appreciating their potential. Lee Kai Jing stated, "I am very grateful to Cycle & Carriage for giving me this opportunity to enter the automotive industry after graduation through the Cycle & Carriage Study Grant. Although I am studying to become a technician at the moment, I am hopeful that my seamless transition into the industry and firsthand experience in the workshop of an established brand can open the pathway for me to become an engineer one day."

Another award recipient, Teshvinder Singh, also expressed his joy upon receiving the grant. He said, "I was so happy when I found out that I was a recipient of the Cycle & Carriage Study Grant as I know that this opportunity to work at Cycle & Carriage will be a great stepping stone for my career. In addition to helping my family financially, my hope is that I can gain a wealth of knowledge from the exposure at Cycle & Carriage and live out my passion with a career in the automotive industry."

"With this study grant, I know that I will have a better future and become one step closer to my goal of becoming successful in the field of automotive engineering, fueled by my love for cars," said Shamstephen.

This Study Grant is part of the company's long-term CSR initiatives to promote the marginalised community and the local automotive scene's economic growth.
