2026 Proton S70 gets 1.5T i-GT 4-cylinder, 0-100 km/h in 7.5s, prices from RM68,800

KUALA LUMPUR: The 2026 Proton S70 MC1 is now officially launched in Malaysia, bringing the sedan’s first major mechanical update since the model arrived in 2023.

Proton keeps the same four-variant line-up, Executive, Premium, Flagship and Flagship X, but the headline change is under the bonnet, where the S70 switches to a new turbocharged 4-cylinder engine across the board.

2026 Proton S70 price in Malaysia

Proton is pairing the S70 launch with a full suite of ownership incentives under its Pro-series packages, alongside a RM5,000 launch rebate across the range.

The Pro-Warranty package includes a five-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty and six times free labour service, while Pro-Connect upgrades the in-car connectivity package with 2GB of data per month for five years.

Buyers also benefit from Pro-Shield, an upgraded Proton insurance programme that adds special perils protection, personal accident coverage for passengers of up to RM15,000 per person, and flood relief coverage of up to RM2,000.

The Pro-Xchange scheme offers total benefits of RM4,000 upon deregistration of a non-roadworthy vehicle, and Pro-Finance completes the package with financing of up to nine years at rates starting from 2.25% per annum.

With the RM5,000 rebate applied, pricing now stands at RM68,800 for the Executive, RM74,800 for the Premium, RM84,800 for the Flagship, and RM89,800 for the Flagship X, all on-the-road without insurance.

New 1.5T i-GT engine, more power, quicker acceleration

This is the big one. The 2026 S70 replaces the earlier 3-cylinder engine with a 1.5-litre i-GT turbo, direct-injected 4-cylinder for all variants.

Key figures quoted:

• 181 PS at 5,500 rpm

• 290 Nm from 2,000 to 3,500 rpm

• Claimed 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds, improved from 9.6 seconds previously

The 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission carries over, but there is also mention of recalibration work for smoother gearshifts. Fuel consumption is rated at 5.7 L/100 km (17.5 km/L), described as an 8.1% improvement, and there is a switch to a toothed timing chain that Proton says will help lower running costs over time.

Exterior changes, subtle refresh plus a new Flagship X look

Visually, the 2026 S70 update is more of a tidy-up than a full redesign.

Noted exterior changes include:

• New LED headlamps, styled after the Geely Emgrand, with the earlier start-up lighting sequence no longer part of the package

• Turn signals now use bulb indicators rather than being integrated into the DRL signature, with the headlamp internal layout reshuffled as a result

• Flagship gets a revised 17-inch two-tone wheel design, still familiar at a glance but with a sharper spoke theme

For the Flagship X, the update is clearer:

• A new black bodykit, with a more aggressive intake framing, a diffuser-style rear skirt, and a boot-lip spoiler with a centre cut-out

• Red highlight accents on certain colour combinations

Tyres changed across the range

All variants now run GitiComfort F22 tyres, replacing the previous fitment of Kumho tyres.

Cabin mostly unchanged, but Flagship finally gets the tech people ask about

Inside, the overall cabin design is essentially carried over, but there are a few meaningful updates depending on variant.

Highlights mentioned:

• Flagship X now gets a black headliner, other variants remain light coloured

• Illuminated window switches added

• Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto now available on Flagship and Flagship X, paired with the larger screen setup on those variants

Executive and Premium continue with the smaller infotainment screen arrangement referenced in the text, and still do without AACP.

The facelift also refreshes the palette:

• Ruby Red replaces Passion Red

• Teal Bayou Green is dropped

S70 1.5TD Executive 
The Executive comes with LED projector headlamps and LED daytime running lights. Inside, it has fabric seats, an infotainment head unit with USB ports, and remote engine start.

Driver assistance and safety equipment listed for this variant includes lane change assist (LCA), rear cross traffic alert (RCTA), rear collision warning (RCW), and rear parking sensors.

S70 1.5TD Premium (adds over Executive)
The Premium adds an LED front fog lamp. It also adds auto hold, a rear “full” tail light bar (described as a full tail light bar combination), and a front parking sensor.

Inside, it gains leatherette seats, auto air-conditioning, and a reverse camera.

S70 1.5TD Flagship (adds over Premium)
The Flagship adds 17-inch alloy wheels. Cabin and tech upgrades listed are a 12.3-inch infotainment head unit and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.

It also adds wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. Additional systems listed include ADAS Level 2, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), 360-degree camera with 3D display, and security tint.

S70 1.5TD Flagship X (adds over Flagship)
The Flagship X adds a sunroof, full black interior, body kit, and a front dashcam video recorder (DVR).
