All-new Honda Civic hatch launched in the US, check details

KUALA LUMPUR: Honda Motor America lineup now includes the all-new 11th-gen Civic hatchback that we are very sure will lure the young crowd. The new Honda not only showcases a stunning exterior profile but takes care of the driving enthusiasts by offering a slick-shifting manual gearbox on top of the CVT auto unit.

The US market already has the Civic sedan and now with the arrival of the hatch model, the decision making becomes further challenging. However, we'd like to inform you that the new Civic hatch version is USD 1,200 dearer than the sedan, its price starts from USD 22,900 (approx. RM 96k).

What powers the new Civic hatch?

The Honda Civic hatch is powered by the same tried and tested 2.0-litre mill that pumps out a maximum power of 158 hp along with a peak torque of 187 Nm. The power is sent to the wheels via a CVT automatic transmission.

Want to ride the model with the stick? Well, in that case, one would have to go for either the 2.0-litre Sport variant or the 1.5-litre Sport Touring variant. Note the trims with manual transmission misses out on the Sport drive mode, however, it retains the electric parking brake with Auto Hold function.

According to Honda, the Civic hatch is more fun to drive compared to the sedan. The former gets a few dynamic upgrades like a slightly thick solid rear anti-roll bar (0.5 mm more than the one seen in the sedan).

What about upgrades inside-out compared to the sedan?

For most of it, the Honda Civic hatchback features the same exterior, interior and safety features as the sedan. Except for the new 16-inch 'steelies' with a plastic cover.

The Sport variant showcases a few upgrades as well. Like black exterior accents & window surrounds, black headlining, Sport-specific seating surfaces, leather-wrapped shift knob & steering wheel, and sport foot pedals.

Not to forget, the new Civic hatch gets the rear seat in the model history!

Also, it is for the first time that the Honda Civic Hatch is manufactured in the US at the company's Indiana plant. The technicians were thus required to learn the new manufacturing and assembly method.
