All-New Proton Saga previewed —1.5-litre/CVT, 16-inch dual screen, ADAS
KUALA LUMPUR: PROTON has given an early look at the All-New Saga, marking a new chapter in its history. It’s the first model since the company’s 2017 partnership with Geely to be fully designed, engineered, and validated by Malaysian talent, with Geely providing technical collaboration along the way.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
What makes the All-New Proton Saga different from the previous model?
The new Saga is the first to be fully designed, engineered, and validated by Malaysian talent under PROTON, built on the new Advanced Modular Architecture (AMA). It features a new i-GT 1.5L engine with a CVT, an integrated dual-screen interior, Level 1 ADAS safety suite, and improved styling inside and out.Does the All-New Proton Saga support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto?
Yes — the new infotainment system supports wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, allowing users to connect their smartphones without cables. It also comes with smart features like auto headlamps, Follow-Me-Home lighting, and headlamp levelling, all part of PROTON’s push toward smarter everyday usability. The result, PROTON says, reflects the brand’s growing confidence and capability to stand on its own feet.

Underpinning the car is PROTON’s in-house Advanced Modular Architecture (AMA) — a flexible platform built to support different body styles, powertrains, and technologies. It meets global standards for safety, emissions, and performance while allowing for future upgrades in electrification and connectivity.
The new electronic architecture also supports smart systems and driver-assistance features, forming the backbone for semi-autonomous tech in future models. PROTON fully owns the platform’s Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), which it says will open doors to more collaboration within the Geely Group and potentially turn Malaysia into an engineering hub for upcoming projects.
New 1.5-litre engine
The new Saga runs on an i-GT 1.5-litre engine paired with a CVT, delivering smooth power and improved efficiency — rated at 4.9L/100 km on the Malaysia Driving Cycle. Electric Power Steering (EPS) sharpens manoeuvrability, while PROTON’s trademark ride and handling promise a balanced mix of comfort and control.
ADAS in a Saga
The car gets a Level 1 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite with nine key features — including Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Rear Collision Warning (RCW), Door Opening Warning (DOW), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Change Assist (LCA), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Intelligent High Beam Control (IHBC), and Front Departure Alert (FDA).
There are also six airbags and PROTON’s Reinforced Safety Structure (RESS) with Hot Press Forming (HPF) components for stronger crash protection.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in a Saga
Inside, a 16-inch Integrated Dual Screen merges the instrument cluster and infotainment display, now compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other touches include auto headlamps, Follow-Me-Home lighting, and headlamp levelling, making it easier to live with day to day.
New exterior
Design-wise, the Saga gets Full LED Projector Headlamps with DRLs, a LED rear light bar, and a bold front grille with a Sulaman Songket motif. A refreshed cabin and two-tone 15-inch alloy wheels complete the update, giving the sedan a more contemporary look without losing its familiar proportions.
Carrying the tagline “Intelligence That Thrills,” the All-New Saga blends technology, design, and everyday usability into what PROTON calls its most advanced A-segment sedan yet. The model introduces 35 new features, most of them focused on safety, convenience, and refinement.
“The All-New Saga represents much more than the next chapter in our sedan legacy,” said Zhang Qiang, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of PROTON Edar. “It embodies the culmination of years of development by Malaysian engineers and designers, backed by global collaboration. This milestone signifies PROTON’s transition from a national carmaker to a global automotive innovator — proudly powered by local talent.”
“This model represents how far PROTON has advanced — from a national carmaker to a forward-looking global brand,” Zhang added. “It’s a car created by Malaysians, for Malaysians, and now ready to showcase our engineering capability to the world.”
As the official launch approaches, PROTON plans a nationwide campaign that includes social media content, livestreams, and media collaborations to tell the story of the Saga’s evolution — from Malaysia’s most recognisable nameplate to a symbol of homegrown engineering maturity.
