All-new Volvo C40 Recharge: Buyer’s guide

It was earlier this month that Volvo Car Malaysia introduced a second electric car to its line-up, the C40 Recharge. Joining the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric which was recently facelifted for the model year 2023, the new C40 is no less be it in terms of design, features, power, or safety specs.

Though we have discussed the car in detail in our launch story, here is a brief on the EV that will prove very helpful for prospective buyers.

So, let’s get started with the car purchase essentials like price & colour options.

Price: Volvo C40 Recharge can be yours for RM 288,888, on-the-road without insurance. Thus making it RM 10,000 dearer than the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric.

Colour options: Customers can choose between five colour options when buying a C40 Recharge. The list includes tones like - Sage Green, Fjord Blue, Crystal White, Black Stone, and Silver Dawn.

Warranty: Each purchase will be accompanied by a 5-year, unlimited mileage warranty, an 8-year, 160,000-km battery warranty, 5 years/100,000 km free service, and 5-year roadside assistance.

Volvo C40 Recharge features

Exterior features: The car sits on the Compact Modular Architecture platform and features a distinctive design with several amazing features. The list includes - LED headlights, 19-inch five-double spoke black diamond cut wheels, and a revised taillight.

Comfort & Convenience: The car is packed with several convenience & comfort features like 4-way power adjustable lumbar support, adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist, memory for driver seat, power adjustable driver and front passenger seat, pilot assist, park assist 360-degree camera.

Climate control: The EV also gets 2-zone electronic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, clean zone interior air quality system with a PM 2.5 sensor.

Entertainment: The latest Volvo gets an android-powered infotainment system with a 9-inch portrait integrated colour touchscreen display, a Harman Kardon premium sound audio system with 14 speakers, and Bluetooth hands-free system with audio streaming.

Digital Service Package: The car comes with a 4-year DSP package which includes a hands-free powered tailgate, a panoramic sunroof, and a 7-metre long 10 A public charging cable.

Safety: The Volvo comes equipped with comprehensive safety and driver assistance systems. The preventive safety kit includes - City Safety collision avoidance & mitigation with intersection support; pedestrian, cyclist, and large animal detection), emergency stop assist, seat belt detection with a graphical indicator for all seats, ready-to-drive notification, cross traffic alert with auto brake, run-off road mitigation, blind spot information system with steer assist, lane keep aid, and front & rear collision warning & mitigation support. The car’s protective safety features kit includes run-off protection, a whiplash protection system for front seats, full-length inflatable curtains, dual-stage driver & front passenger airbags, a driver’s side knee airbags, and a side impact protection system with dual chamber airbags.

Volvo C40 Recharge powertrain & design configuration

Dimensions: The car measurement specs sheet reads 4,431 mm in length, 1,863 mm in width, and 1,582 mm in height. The wheelbase stretches to 2,702 mm and its boot space capacity is 413-litre.

Engine: Powering the C40 Recharge is an all-wheel drive electric powertrain consisting of a 78 kWh lithium-ion battery powering a pair of e-motors (one on each axle). The total system output is rated at 408 PS and 660 Nm of torque.

Range & performance: The car’s sleek shape helps it provide a range of up to 450 km on a single charge following the WLTP. As for performance, the EV completes a century spirit in just 4.7 seconds.

Charging: For a full charge the EV requires about 7.5 hours with an AC input of 11 kW. Also, part of the kit is a DC fast charging up to 150 kW with a CCS2 connection where 0-80% state of charge is achieved in just 28 minutes.
