CKD Plant in Tanjung Malim – Local assembly by 2026
The most impactful news is BYD’s plan to establish a new CKD (Completely Knocked Down) factory in Tanjung Malim, Perak. Spanning 600,000 square metres, the facility is set to begin operations in 2026. This plant is seen as a strategic step to make EVs more affordable and competitive for Malaysian buyers, while also strengthening BYD’s foothold in the local market.
“Malaysia has always been one of BYD’s most important markets in Southeast Asia,” said Liu Xueliang, General Manager of BYD Asia Pacific Auto Sales Division. “Today’s dual announcement of CKD and the New BYD SEAL marks a new chapter in our journey here. With the strong support of Sime Motors, we are confident in deepening our roots in Malaysia and bringing world-class EV technology closer to local customers.”
Liu added that BYD’s commitment extends beyond products, highlighting investment in local assembly, talent development, and broader EV ecosystem growth.
