BYD Seal EV teased ahead of imminent launch in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: BYD Malaysia has finally dropped the first teaser of the highly-anticipated Seal EV, earmarked to launch in the first quarter of 2024. The teaser emphasises the electric sedan’s performance with the tagline "Faster than your morning coffee" and the hashtag "#SealTheSpeed.

The Seal will be the third BYD EV in Malaysia, following the Atto 3 and Dolphin. It was previewed last December at the brand's first-anniversary celebration. The key highlights of the upcoming Chinese sedan are as follows - 

• The EV is equipped with an 800V electrical architecture and in-house developed CTB technology, which integrates the battery pack into the EV’s body and creates a strong “sandwich” structure
• It is 4,800 mm long, 1,875 mm wide, and 1,460 mm tall and spans a wheelbase of 2,920 mm. The EV boasts a boot storage capacity of 400 litres along with front storage of 53 litres

• The car offers an exceptionally low drag coefficient of 0.219 Cd thanks to its sleek, low-to-the-ground body style with a smooth front end and a sloping roofline
• BYD is likely to offer the EV in three trims viz. Dynamic RWD, Premium RWD, and AWD Performance. The Dynamic RWD is equipped with a 204 PS/310 Nm single electric motor and a 61.4 kWh LFP Blade battery offering a range of up to 460 km
• The Premium RWD, on the contrary, comes powered by a 313 PS/360 Nm rear-mounted motor and a larger 82.5 kWh LFP battery with 570 km of range

• The top-spec AWD Performance runs on a dual-motor setup producing 530 PS and 670 Nm, allowing the EV to run from zero to 100 kmph in mere 3.8 seconds. It is fed by an 82.5 kWh battery, which provides a range of up to 520 km on a single charge
• In terms of features, the upcoming BYD EV is expected to get a 15.6-inch rotating infotainment unit, a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, a head-up display, dual-zone climate control, heated and ventilated power-adjustable front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a full suite of advanced safety technology
• The BYD Seal will lock horns with the Tesla Model 3 and Kia EV6 in Malaysia
