Check out the European Car of the Year 2021

KUALA LUMPUR: For the year 2021, Toyota Yaris was named the European Car of the Year. The car was given the title in a grand event hosted at the Palexpo exhibition centre located in Geneva, The day coincided with the event when the 2021 Geneva International Motor Show was scheduled to be held. It is now for the second consecutive year that the world-renowned auto show has been cancelled, owing to the pandemic.

Total six cars were shortlisted in the race to become European Car of the Year 2021. Of all, the Yaris scored the highest points, 266. The news gets better for Toyota, as it is for the second time the Yaris grabbed the title, as earlier it was named the Car of the Year 2000.

Wanna know the names of the other shortlisted cars and their score? Toyota Yaris was followed by the Fiat 500 Electric that scared 240, and then came the Cupra Formentor with 239 points. Also, part of the shortlisted group was Volkswagen ID 3 (224 points), Skoda Octavia (199 points), Land Rover Defender (164 points), and lastly Citroen C4 (143 pints).

“This is a great honour for Toyota and I’d like to thank the jury for their consideration and recognition. I’d also like to take this opportunity to recognise the passion of our development teams in Europe and Japan. This is the best-ever Yaris, and just as Akio Toyoda intended, it is already putting a smile on the face of our customers”, said Toyota Europe Executive VP, Matt Harrison.

Last year, Peugeot 208 was named the Car of the Year 2020, before which, i.e., in 2019 Jaguar I-Pace won the title.

Details about the European Car of the Year?

Car of the Year is an independent organization that is sponsored and supported by nine automotive publications from nine European countries. The jury consists of 59 journalists from 22 countries.
