Chery Malaysia turns three: anniversary deals from RM80,800 and a PHEV battery warranty that might surprise you

KUALA LUMPUR: Chery Malaysia is marking its third year in the local market with a limited-time promotion across several of its models. If you've been sitting on the fence, now's probably a decent time to look.

The TIGGO Cross Turbo at RM80,800 is the entry point here and probably the one that makes the most sense for younger buyers or anyone who just wants a compact SUV without spending six figures.

The two PHEV options, the TIGGO 7 PHEV and the larger seven-seater TIGGO 8 PHEV, sit at RM109,800 and RM138,800 respectively.

Three years in Malaysia: how Chery got here

Chery made its return to Malaysia in 2023, starting with conventional petrol models before gradually expanding the lineup. 2024 was mostly about growing the dealer network and getting more SUV options into the market.

By last year, the brand had shifted its focus noticeably toward electrification, specifically plug-in hybrids built around its in-house Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) platform.

CSH is Chery's proprietary PHEV system, combining a petrol engine with an electric motor setup that handles energy management between the two. The pitch is efficiency in everyday driving without the range anxiety of a pure EV, which is a reasonable position to take in a market where public charging is still patchy.

The battery warranty on Chery's PHEV models is worth flagging: buyers get coverage of up to 10 years or 200,000 km. That's a notably long commitment, and for anyone nervous about hybrid battery longevity further down the road, it removes a big chunk of the uncertainty.

Is three years a milestone?

It depends on how you measure it. Chery's trajectory in Malaysia has been steady rather than explosive, but the brand has moved from ICE-only to a proper PHEV lineup in a fairly short window.

Whether the CSH technology lands well with Malaysian buyers is something that'll play out over the next few years, especially as more affordable PHEV and EV alternatives crowd into the same segment.
