Chery Omoda 5 and Tiggo 8 Pro previewed at Malaysia Auto Show 2023

KUALA LUMPUR: At the ongoing Malaysia Auto Show 2023, the Chinese automaker Chery has put on display two much-awaited models, namely Omoda 5 and Tiggo 8 Pro. This SUV duo will be available for test drive during the event open to the public from May 4 to May 7, 2023. They are slated to hit the Malaysian showrooms in June this year.

The upcoming Chery Omoda 5 is a five-seater B-segment SUV that will come powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine kicking out a maximum power of 147 PS and a peak torque of 230 Nm. The power will be delivered to the front wheels via a CVT automatic transmission. It will rival the likes of the Proton X50, Honda HR-V, and Toyota Corolla Cross. 

The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro, on the other hand, is a bigger model that incorporates three rows of seating. It will come equipped with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder mill delivering 250 PS of power and 390 Nm of peak torque. The transmission duties will be handled by a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

In conjunction with its participation in the auto show, Chery Malaysia has also announced the name of its local partner viz. Inokom Corporation (Sime Darby Inokom). The partnership will conduct the local assembly of Chery models at the Sime Darby’s facility in Kulim, Kedah.
