Chery Omoda 5 launched in Malaysia; price starts at RM 108,800

KUALA LUMPUR: Alongside the Tiggo 8 Pro, Chery also introduced the Omoda 5 during its official brand launch event in Malaysia. The Omoda 5 is a five-seater SUV that is set to rival the likes of the Proton X50 and Honda HR-V.

Chery Malaysia offers the Omoda 5 in two locally-assembled variants - C and H, priced at RM 108,800 and RM 118,800. Included in the price is a 7-year manufacturing warranty and a 5-year free servicing package. 

Both variants of the Omoda 5 are powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged inline-four engine generating a maximum power of 156 hp and a peak torque of 230 Nm. The power is sent to the front wheels via a continuously variable transmission with nine virtual gears.

Dimensionally, the SUV measures 4,400 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width, and 1,588 mm in height and spans a wheelbase of 2,630 mm. 

Design-wise, the Omoda 5 sports the brand’s newly developed "Art in Motion" design language. It features a borderless front styling with a diamond matrix grille, split headlights, and T-shaped LED daytime running lights. Other key highlights include - smooth and powerful lines, flowing LED tail lights, and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Among the Omoda 5 H exclusive bits are sequential turn indicators, welcome lights animation, red stripes, and a hands-free powered tailgate.

Inside the cabin, the Chery Omoda 5 boasts a funky dashboard kitted with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.25-inch infotainment system supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and an intelligent voice assistant system. The other standard features include dual-zone climate control, an electronic parking brake, a wireless charging pad, a reverse camera, and fabric upholstery.

The top-spec H trim also gets the advanced Sony Premium sound system with eight speakers, six-way electrically adjustable driver seats with ventilation, faux leather upholstery, and a powered sunroof.

Parts of the SUV’s standard safety pack are Autonomous Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control with low-speed follow, Integrated Cruise Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Departure Prevention, Emergency Lane Keeping, Traffic jam Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and Blind Spot Detection. The top-spec H trim also features a 360-degree surround view monitor, a speed limit assist, and a traffic sign recognition system.

The Omoda 5 is offered in three striking colour options - Khaki White, Dark Black, Phantom, and Grey.
